Alias

Alias, with a soft lower case, "A" sound.

‘Nobody can hear a scream in the vacuum of space, or so they say’

Maybe that is what they say. I am not truly sure. I am not from space. My mate is. His name is Alias (lower case sound for the A in his name) and mine is Malika. Before I get ahead of myself let me start this story at the terrifying beginning.

Well, terrifying for myself. Alias says it was the funniest night of his life.

For now, I’ll let you decide.

Our story started months ago, when I first encountered my mate, he terrified me.

It was a late august evening, and I was putting myself and my dog Ratchet to bed. When I found, my eyes being drawn to the window of my bedroom. The normal darkness of the Kentucky night was disturbed with a lightshow like no other.

Ratchets fur stood on end as she growled out the window, I slid my hand to her neck to calm her as I took in the blues and greens of lights that reminded me of pictures if the Arora borealis. But those were lights that happened across the world from Kentucky.

As I watched the lights it was as if they moved and had a life of their own. They seemed to form hands and legs. It was no longer a normal night light show. There was something inside these lights, maybe someone?

Those same lights that formed hands reached out to grab at me a few times. Getting close enough that I pulled away in confusion and dismay. The fear that consumed me moments later came from the banging on the windows. The fists of air that came crashing down as if to break through the glass of my bedroom window.

My heart racing, I grabbed Ratchet and got us under the bed just as the window began to give. Listening to the creaking and groaning of the panes as it tried to protect me from what ever was outside were sad excuses of defiance.

I heard a crunch a loud crash as the glass gave in and the air began to cool around us. The lights from outside were now just in front of my face and every so often they reached out to caress my cheeks. I was horrified to find that they, those touches and caresses, burned like that of a hand of a person on my skin.

My breath caught in my throat as I heard them, the sound of footsteps on top of my bed crunching the now shattered glass into my bedspread and then into the floor. The shifting of the weight told me it was a full-grown person above me. As they stepped down, I caught sight of pure black on pure white. The muscular calf in front of me turned around drawing Ratchets attention causing her to snarl. I slammed my eyes shut as soon as the black shoes turned toward me under the bed as if pointing me out. I had to grab at ratchet to keep her from lunging to try and protect me. Clearly having given away our position I laid there with an inhaled breath, eyes still slammed shut holding tight to my dog.

I heard the floor creaking, it sounded as if they were trying to move my bed from over me. That’s when it suddenly went silent with the sound of a snap. A snap of their fingers? I was confused and unsure what was going on and I laid there waiting for something, anything.

After a few minutes of nothing I let out my breath that I had been holding and slowly opened my eyes looking around slowly. My eyes widened at the state of my room. It was as if gravity itself had been removed from just my bedroom. Everything was floating and swirling around the center of the room. I sat up and blinked trying to make sense of what was happening. That’s when I heard it. The soft, yet low deep chuckle that came from behind me.

I spun as best I could and came nose to nose with a masculine figure. Large broad shoulders covered in tight black fabric, pale milky white skin shimmering in the lights of the night. He was large and muscular, well-toned compared to my chub gained from nightly movies with girlfriends and midnight snacks to help me sleep.

He had these soft pale blue eyes that stared back into my much darker ones as if looking for something,’ You’ll do just fine” a deep voice stated filling the air between us though his lips never moved, and I went looking for the sound.

Again, I heard the chuckle and felt a hand on my chin turning me back to face those pale eyes,” I am right here.” Was all the voice saying this time? I shook my head and pulled my chin away from the gentle grasp of hand and took another look at the man before me.

He was in some sort of uniform, it was an all-black uniform, possibly meant for combat and the weapons that looked other worldly strapped to his side and back only made me more concerned. I swallowed the lump in my throat and asked,” What are you? Who are you? And why are you here?”

He smirked as he watched me.

I sat up and crossed my arms over my chest waiting for some sort of answers.

“I am Alias.” He said finally a soft chuckle still stuck in his throat and a smile on his face.

I nodded slowly in a slight greeting, “Malika. Now what are you? Why are you here?”

This time I watched his mouth move as he voiced my name, “Malika,” he said as if tasting it with his tongue. He smiled as he said it a few more times and seemed pleased with the name. “Meaning queen, correct?” he asked looking at me pleasantly surprised it seemed. “I am what your people on earth would refer to as an alien from outer space. Though I am truly just a man from my planet looking for my mate. And here you are.” He said widening his arms as if announcing something I should have already known.
