The clock ticked into the future. Kim kept her solid face as her attorney raised from her seat.

“Ladies and gentlemen, we’re standing on the weak, feeble, and faltering case that the prosecution has presented. You have been told things reserved for fairy tales. What is glaring are the facts regarding this case. In an alternate universe, the words that have been expressed would still not make sense. There are so many holes that I’m surprised they didn’t evolve into blackholes and suck in reality.”

“If you think that Detective Kim Jergensen, a decorated Marine, and a candidate for the FBI would carry out these atrocious acts, it would only be because of the fact that the veneer of truth has been presented. Was she against Naomi? Yes. Did she have a problem with her cellmate? Sure. But did Miss Jergensen commit such savagery? No. She couldn’t have even if she wanted to do so. She kept her own and stayed true to herself. She went to bed on each of the nights and woke up with her cellies strangled to death. Both of them were suicide risks. Both of them exhibited actions that were contrary to the character of a healthy candidate.”

“What Miss Jergensen did was to live her life and then not have to worry about it…until she did. We take the time to look at facts. That’s all we have are facts. What the DA is showing is the fallacy of the legal system that is stacked against her. She is in a position to protect herself. She has no family and little friends to help stand up for her. You, ladies and gentlemen, are what stand in the way of not just her going to the electric chair or the injection table but to sustain and protect her life. I’m not denying that the people that are no longer with us were quality individuals. They were troubled women who did not get the proper care they needed. They should have been treated instead of dying by suicide.”

“The papers are saying ‘Academy Murders’ but that is a misnomer. These are clearly suicides. These are the victims of a system that didn’t care for them enough to keep them alive. But Kim Jergensen had nothing to do with their deaths. There is no tangible evidence that points in the direction of Miss Jergensen’s guilt. There’s no way that she should even be in here during these proceedings. She is a bona fide crime fighter. As we all know of her work in Delaware, she is a supreme example, a pillar of our society. She should be out there taking down the bad guys rather than being looked at as the vermin she put behind bars. It is with this sentiment that I want you to remember. Keep in your minds that this is the key to what we have to offer. Lies and distortions will always be a part of our system, sadly. But we ought to realize that the position of where Miss Jergensen remained was as far and away as she could get in a cell. She is the first, last, and only line of defense from the foreign theater to the streets at home. She is the one and only being that is held up as a citizen on patrol. A true cop through and through, she took off her uniform to elevate herself to the levels of federal Special Agent. By her decision to be such a staunch guardian of the law, she should deserve much more than she is getting today.”
