A Partial Family Reunion
page 14 of The Fig Tree Series

The rescue officer did not see or hear anyone else on the street so he pulled the boat with the two children towards the dry land where their mother was waiting for them. When she could see clearly that Mario and Anya were safely in the rescue boat nearing her, she smiled and sighed relieved. As soon as reach was accomplished, Fig scooped up Anya from the boat as the officer helped Mario out of the boat at the same time.
Anya hugged and held unto her mother tightly, and though she was too big to be nestled like a koala bear, Fig held her up and smiled at Mario noting that he was pouting.
"Thank you so much Officers," Fig said sincerely. The two officers managing the scene nodded at her gratitude and continued to discuss further rescue action.
"What about Uncle Georgio?" Mario demanded angrily, sneering at all of them including his mother.
Fig looked at the police officer who had heard Mario's question and the two adults switched gears again. Fig set Anya down on the dry land and moved closer to the officer who had been standing there with her while she was waiting.
"Did they find my Uncle?" Fig asked him.
"No, not yet," he replied.
"The door was still locked!" Mario exclaimed, "He's still in there!"
The adults were silenced for a moment.
"Calm down," Fig said to Mario, "They are trying to help us."
"I'll need at least two more guys," the officer who had pulled the boat said to the officer in uniform who nodded in agreement, then went to his car to make a call. Then he tied the boat again so it wouldn't drift off and turned to Fig who was standing between her two children. "We're on it, Ma'am. We will find your Uncle. Please be patient."
Fig nodded, Anya held her hand tightly, and Mario frowned again.

I have this bad feeling about little Mario... Worried about him taking "Drastic Action".
