"A Great Sacrifice"

Short story

By Karan w. Published about a year ago 3 min read

Cleo lay on her father's lap like she did every night, begging to be told a story. This was the most confusing and tiring task for her father after his tedious day's work. "Tell your daughter a new story every night.

Let's start today's story," her father said politely. "But promise me you won't interrupt me."

Cleo thought for a while and nodded.

"A long time ago, in a very dense forest, lived a horse named Necros. But that horse was no ordinary hor; he was a cursed horse," Necros was cursed from birth so that whoever rode him "would not survive." Whoever rode Necros, "would be killed immediately." When he went to graze in the forest, squirrels would climb on his back, and die instantly. When he walked under the big trees in the forest, "little monkeys would come and sit on his back, "but they would die in a few moments too.

Poor horse," he said, "he must tell everybody that he is cursed." said Cleo, anxiously.

"You promised me," so please keep quiet, or I will stop telling you the story. "Is that what you want?" her father said, with some seriousness and a softer tone.

The little girl closed her eyes and begged her father to continue the story."

Her father continued telling the story.".

"Necros lost his tongue as a child because he chewed on volcanic lava. That's why he can't speak.

But whenever he sees the dead monkeys, squirrels, and other animals that died immediately after riding him, "his eyes well up with tears. Even flocks of small birds and other birds would come and sit on his back, and all the birds would die. But the tears that flowed from his eyes were the only tribute he could shed for those dead birds.

Necros is certainly the only animal in the whole forest that never laughs, nor does he ever smile or feel happy. He always has tears in his eyes and the burden of those dead animals in his heart.

" At this point in the story, Cleo becomes serious and completely lost in the story. "One of his legs was out of the blanket, so it was numb due to the cold. "But she did not care about it at all. She did not want any interruption in the immense pleasure she was getting while listening to the story."

Her father continued the story without stopping. "

"Necron now isolated himself from the other animals, he stopped going to the open fields to graze grass. Due to which he became very thin."

He started living hidden in caves, but even there other small animals living in the caves would come and sit on his back, "and after a few moments they would die.

Necron was not safe anywhere for other animals, wherever he went, someone or the other would get killed. So he became very sad.

One day, he met the "Great Horned Owl," who was the most intelligent animal in that jungle. He had understood that Necron was cursed. So he asked him to go to the great magician the great soulmancer. "The only one who could free him from this curse.

Necron thanked the Great Horned Owl and crossed seven hills to reach the wizard's house. But when he got there he found out that the wizard had died that morning.

Necron was very sad, he was completely broken. Now he did not see any hope of living. Even if he lived, "he would only cause the death of other animals.

" So he jumped from a very high hill and erased his existence.

"Necron sacrificed himself to save the other animals.

" Cleo was still shocked, her eyes were wet. And she was lost in deep thought.

"You did not want to save the horse." The wizard could have died tomorrow. "After freeing Necron from the curse." You could have saved him. "Cleo said in a tearful voice.
No dear, this is how the story goes. Sometimes one has to sacrifice oneself for the good of others.

    Beautiful story

  • Okay like why are the animals sooo interested in sitting on Necron's back, lol. Jokes aside, my heart broke for Necron. He couldn't speak and was cursed. He even sacrificed himself 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

Oh wow! That was so good ❤ A short story... A great lesson ✨ Sometimes, one has to sacrifice to save the rest. But it's damn hard in the era... Isn't it? He was such a wise father who told her daughter stories that would leave a deep and lasting impact on her. Btw, I didn't see this story coming! Wonderful 🦋
