We drove up the snowy, winding road toward the cozy A-frame cabin. It was nice and warm in the car, but as soon as we opened the door, we felt the frigid air.

“We’re finally here! This week will be so much fun, just the 6 of us in the cabin, good food, nice warm fire, and good company.” Mike said taking in the cool air.

“Yeah, and no thoughts of city life,” Jody replied.

We got our luggage and walked into the cabin. The owners of the Airbnb put the heat on, so it was nice and cozy. After we picked out their rooms and put our clothes away then met in the living room.

“I put the food away, here are some cheese and crackers for a snack and wine,” Jodie said smiling

“Thank you, I’m hungry” Ripar groaned as he touched his stomach.

“Dude, you ate all the way down here, do you have a parasite or something?” John laughed and put his arm around Ripars shoulders.

Everyone chuckled, Ripar blushed.

“You got human reactions down pretty good.” Jody joked smiling

Captain Roj put wood in the fireplace and used his laser gun to make a fire.

“Hey! I thought we were going to leave all alien technology at home?” Mike said with a fake snarl on his face.

“It’s always good to be safe, we may need it.”

“Yeah, to build a fire.” Jody laughed “I love you guys, who knew I’d be best friends with people from another planet?”

“Who knew I’d be best friends with Earthlings.” Ripar smiled and poked Jody, then put a cracker with Swiss cheese in his mouth.

“So tomorrow we teach you guys how to snowboard?” Mike asked

“I think I have the basics down, stand while going down a hill, and don’t fall. Seems pretty simple.” Ripar jabbed

“It’ll be fun watching you fall flat on your face,” Mike replied laughing.

“Let's go for a walk and get a lay of the land. It’s so beautiful and quiet out here.” Jodie said getting up.

Everyone got up, put on their jackets, scarves, and gloves then headed out the door. As we walked Captain Roj threw a snowball at John who smiled and threw one back. Jody took one in each hand and threw them at Doctor Vocar and Ripar. Soon we were all having a snowball fight, laughing without a care in the world.

“Let's make a relative of the snowman we made in Antarctica.” Ripar started to make a big snowball for the body, Mike, John, and Jody helped. Roj and Vocar made the smaller one for the head. “I’m going to go look for arms, eyes, nose, and mouth.”

Ripar walked into the woods and found some nice rocks for the eyes and mouth.

He broke off some branches for the arms and he cut a piece off of a tree trunk for the nose. As I walked and looked around, there was a beautiful white wolf, almost invisible in the snow. She was just sniffing around, probably looking for prey. She looked up at him with her piercing eyes, stood there for a few moments then started barking and snarling.

Ripar put down the stuff in his hand slowly and shifted into a wolf. The wolf stopped in its tracks, confused.

“It’s ok, I don’t want to hurt you,” Ripar said calmly

“You were human, now you’re wolf like me?”

“I’m from another planet, another world far away, and we can shift into other living species. I’m here with friends, we mean you no harm.”

“Humans try and hurt us, we either run or fight.”

“No need to do neither with us. Come, meet my friends.”

The wolf followed Ripar who shifted back into a human. They got to his friends.

“Don’t worry, she’s friendly.”

“Are all of you shifters from another world?”

“No, these three are humans, but they’re friendly.”

“Wait, I’ll be back,” the wolf said while running off.

Ripar ran off too, to get the rocks and twigs he dropped. About two minutes later he came back.

“While we wait let's finish the snowman.”

While taking the twigs and jabbed them in the side of the snowman to make the arms. Jody and Mike made the eyes, nose, and mouth. They all stepped back to look at it.

“He’s a masterpiece!” Mike laughed

A few moments later the wolf came back with five pups on trail. The baby wolves ran playing with each other than saw the humans and stopped.

“These people are good, the only ones you should trust.”

The pups slowly walked toward them, sniffing them. Jodie was petting a couple and then they jumped on her kissing her face. She laughed

“Do your trick.” The momma wolf asked

I shifted into a baby wolf, then Roj, and lastly Vocar. The pups stopped and stared, then a couple growled.

“It’s ok little ones, they are not from here.”

The babies sniffed the aliens, tails wagging. One of the pups started running.

“I bet you can’t catch me!”

I ran after it, then changed into a bigger wolf and caught him.

“That’s no fair, you cheated.”

I changed back into a pup. “That’s true, I just couldn’t resist.”

The pup ran away again. This time I sped up and tackled him. “You’re too fast. He then got up and playfully attacked me, biting my neck.”

Everyone else watched. “Tike really likes him.”

“Yeah, Ripar is the first Alien we met, then he brought these guys.”

Tike and Ripar joined everyone else.

“We should leave soon and let these nice people relax.”

“It’s fine, we learn from every species we meet. We’re going to hang out here for a little while, then get something to eat. You can join us?” Raj asked

“You just have to promise not to steal other people’s food, they don’t like that,” Mike said

“I tell my babies not to and I only take what they throw out when it’s safe.”

“Ok, I just want you to be safe.”

“So what’s your story? Why are you on Earth?”

Ripar, Roj, and Vocar told the story of their planet. The momma wolf started to cry.

“I’m so sorry.”

“Thank you. We’ll be ok.”

The wolves and Aliens played while the humans watched. A couple of the pups ran up to Jodie and tackled her.

“They seem to like you,” Mama said

“They do, and I don’t mind at all.” Jodie laughed while getting kisses from them

After a while a male wolf came, I guessed he was the leader of their pack.

“I was wondering when he would show. He was probably watching for quite some time to see if you were a threat.”

“Morice, they’re nice, don’t worry.”

“I’m not, I just came to say hello. They seem nice for humans.”

The three aliens changed back into humans.

“I’ve watched you do that and I heard your story. I feel sad for your people.”

“Thank you. Hopefully soon our planet will be healed.”

“Let’s go eat! Ripar said”

“There goes that parasite again.” John laughed

“Do you live here now?” Asked Morice

“No, we’re just taking a little vacation. We’ll be here for a week.”

“Goodie!” One of the pups yelled looking up at Jodie.

As the sun went down and it got chilly, the wolves said they were going to go back to their den.

“Can we come back tomorrow...Please!” A pup yelled out, jumping around wagging her tail.

“That’s up to them.”

“You’re welcome here anytime. We’re going to go snowboarding in the morning but we should be back late afternoon or early evening.” Jodie said and everyone agreed.

“Ok, we’ll see you.”

The family of wolves walked off into the forest. The gang went inside, took off their wet clothes, and put another log on the fire. They then ate dinner, relaxed a bit then went to bed.

In the morning Jodie got up before dawn, she made coffee and started making breakfast, eggs, bacon, hash browns and toast.

Ripar was the first to wake up.

“I thought I smelled food”

“You do eat a lot more than the Roj and Vocar. What’s up with that?”

“I don’t know. I’ve always been like this. There are certain Targofians that just eat a lot.”

“Lucky you don’t have to worry about gaining weight.” Josie laughed

“Yeah, heart disease and other vascular problems humans get we don’t have to worry about either. We can eat almost anything.”

“Rub it in, we need to work out (or just work on a farm) to stay fit and you guys can morph into anyone you want. Must be nice?”

“It is but after a while it just becomes part of life like breathing.”

John woke up a couple of minutes later Vocar, and the rest about 10 minutes after that.

“Breakfast is almost ready.”

Ripar looked out the window.

“What a sunrise. It’s so beautiful here.”

When breakfast was ready, they all sat at the table and ate. Not much conversation, just enjoying the view from the window and the food.

When they were done eating, they got ready and headed to the slopes. It was pretty busy; you would never have thought their cabin was only a 10-minute drive to the lodge.

“We have to go over here to rent your equipment,” John said

Everyone followed John, they got everything the aliens needed and about 20 minutes later they were all clothed for snowboarding and ready to go.

“Time to put my YouTube watching to the test.” Ripar laughed

They got on the tram and went up the mountain. After getting off they found a nice spot.

“This should be easy enough for you, just take it easy. There’s no one around to watch you fall.” Mike said with a chuckle.

The three aliens snapped into their snowboards and stood there looking down. Ripar went first, and within 5 seconds of him going he fell, rolling in the snow.

Roj went next with a similar fate. Dr. Vocar made himself fatter on either side and distributed the weight perfectly. He flew down the mountain. He’d bounce to the right and push himself up, then bounce to the left and do the same. He was a human-looking weeble wobble. The humans boarded down and Ripar and Roj copied Vocar.

“See easy.” Ripar laughed so hard he almost choked.

“That was cheating, smart though. Lucky, we picked a part of the mountain that is empty.”

“Yeah, want to go again?” Ripar said while walking to the tram.

Over the next week, the gang had a nice fun time. The wolves came and played, we snowboarded and actually got pretty good. At the end of their vacation, they were sad to go, and so were the wolves. They said their sad goodbyes and told them they’d be back soon. Everyone packed their stuff, put it in the car and they drove off into the sunset.
