In Hampton Hill, you can buy Love™. I don’t mean that in the way you think. That doesn’t exist anymore, why should it?

When you can buy the condensed ecstasy of Love™, why then fall in love, be intimate and physical, stew in your emotions?

Instead we have a perfectly run society. No one is late to work, people are polite, lines are neat, and life is easy. You know why that is, it is because…

I wake up every morning at the same time, no worries burden my sleep. I do feel joy and sadness, I don't think that will leave me. No matter how hard the corporations try. But it is not the same as it used to be.

In the beginning the government tried to stop it. But how do you stop selling Love in a Bottle™ when it is more addictive than cocaine and stronger than hunger? It once was a reason to get up in the morning and even started wars.

Well now...

Today, the walls in our museums stand white and empty. We have the old art, we continue to make new art. But it's not the same.

A proper gentleman or lady does not indulge in Love™. That is left for the addicts on the fringes of Hampton Hill. They breathe it, drink it, steal it. Wasting their life for an artificial high. But I get it, why be proper when…

When love doesn’t exist, neither does hate. To have a perfect world, love must be sacrificed and then, and only then, we can destroy hate.

“A simple statement, absolute in its execution."

Why even write when every line I write is empty? Hollower than the hearts of Hampton Hill. I write this not even knowing why I choose to write it? Who would read it? Why would you read it?

You’d think people would reject the idea of selling Love™, but no one did because…

First, there was the decline of drugs and sugar, then the fall of music and literature, and finally the loss of colour and romance.

The thing is, Love™ was so instantly addictive, no one had time to truly question it. And those who finally did, were just too late.

The government, the military, and the scientists all knew that something was changing in the fabric of humanity: love was now a commodity and hate could now be dissolved. It became an impossible industry to control. Why should it be controlled? When it feels so good and is equally so cheap.

Isn’t love just purity and violence, chemicals and electricity, all mixed into one?

Our galleries are left with empty mementos of a time when we used to love. A painting of a lone rose on a dinner table, the small hand of a child grasping their mother’s dress, a heart-shaped locket left in the sand, a man with his dog, proud as ever. These images now feel so empty. It once brought people joy and sadness, but now it doesn’t. What becomes of art when envy, hate, love, and ambition don't exist anymore?

What became of my dog, where is he? Where is the heart-shaped locket my mother once gave me? I can't remember the smell of roses. It doesn't matter anymore.

When I buy my Bottle of Love™, I look at it and feel nothing. Tonight I will take a sip of Love™ after dinner and get ready for bed early.
