Dear Mom,
They say the people closest to you always take you for granted. I know that sometimes I do, its because no matter what I know you are always there to pick up the pieces for me. Today, I have realized that by you living your life, you have modeled a pathway for me to live mine. I can never take that for granted because I finally realized that everything I am and everything I embody is you, mom.
I know that sometimes you have had doubts about whether you were a good mom or not, whether some of the choices you made during our upbringing were right or wrong and I also know that even though I can come to you and tell you that you are so amazing just being you, those doubts are still there. I can come to you ten times a day everyday, and tell you you’re the world best mom I know those doubts wont go. So, instead mom let me tell you this…
You spent eighteen years away from your family and the place you grew up in to move to a country so that I could grow up around a mom and dad. You spent those years in a place so foreign to you sometimes and you masked all of that with a smile that would light up my world every day (even when it didn’t feel like it). You were so strong and so resilient mom. I am so lucky to have see someone be so strong and happy despite everything else that went on. Because of that, I am strong. I can take on whatever life throws at me because you taught me to have strength. Mom, you gave up so many of your dreams because you were trying to make everyone else’s dreams come true. You started your career all over again at fifty years old and become so successful. Your perseverance has taught me to never give up on my dreams. You have achieved so much mom and because of this I know that I want to go places. No matter how hard or difficult it is and I know that I will because I watched you do it. You were just living your life, but to me, you were constantly inspiring me to be a better version of myself.
I always used to call you supermom because you would be able to do anything and everything for me at any given time. And I always thought it was because you had to, I mean I’m your daughter after all but I see today that isn’t the case and you aren’t a supermom. You are a super woman because you don’t only do this for me, you do this for everyone around you. You have so much happiness coming out of you that it radiates onto the people around you, your friends love you because they know they can always rely on you, you put everyone’s needs before yours and the world is a better place because of that. I see the way you live your life with such happiness even though the world has thrown so much at you and you encourage me to live mine the same way.
Mom, I know I was never the easiest daughter to handle. Some of my choices and decisions had severe consequences and I know they didn’t make you the proudest. But even through all of this, you never judged my choices, you held my hand and were there for me and somehow you managed to discipline me at the same time. I cant say many people would be able to do both but I am so happy you did because I know I can always make my own mistakes but you will always make sure I learn from them. You set the greatest example of the mom I want to be, and I hope to be even half as good of a mom as you.
So thank you mom, thank you for letting me be me. Thank you for letting me make my own choices and travel the world (even when you didn’t want to let me go) because you taught me to be brave. You taught me to have courage and to go after what I want because no dream is too big. Thank you for smiling at every stranger and helping the homeless and giving back to your community. Because this taught me to have humility. You taught me to appreciate the small things and be thankful for what I do have. Thank you for forcing me to do work from a young age, and push me to get my degree because now I know – even if I lose everything, I have an education and no one can take that from me. Not only have you shown me how to be the world's greatest mom, but you have also shown me how to be a great person. Thank you for living your life just the way you have because you have shown me how I want to live mine.
Thank you mom, thank you times a million. You are my role model and my inspiration.
You always come to me and tell me how proud you are of me. I want you to look at yourself and I want you to be proud of yourself because everything that I am, and everything that I strive to be is you mom. I want everything you embody in me and I know I still have so much to learn from you.
I love you mom.
Always,
Your Daughter
