Tamil cinema has long explored the themes of motherly and fatherly sentiment in its films, but Varisu, the latest offering from actor Vijay, adds another layer to the mix: brotherly sentiment. The film tells the story of a wealthy family with a number of problems and conflicts between its members, and while it initially feels like a familiar popcorn movie that has been seasoned with various elements, it ultimately delivers an emotionally charged and satisfying experience.
The film begins with a lavish introduction to the main characters' opulent home and the business dealings of the patriarch, Rajendaran (played by Sarath Kumar), who is in competition with Jayaprakash (Prakash Raj). Rajendaran boasts about his two sons, but is reticent about discussing his youngest, Vijay. As the story progresses, the audience is left wondering if Vijay will leave his carefree life and take an interest in his father's business.
The first half of the film is slow-paced and feels like a TV soap opera, with shallow emotional beats and a lack of depth to the mother-son and brothers' relationships. However, the film picks up steam in the second half, with a character's decision leading to a satisfying payoff. Vijay's performance is particularly noteworthy, as he returns to his comedic and goofy roots that fans have come to love.
The film is directed by Vamshi Paidipally and features a strong supporting cast, including Rashmika, R. Sarathkumar, Prabhu, Prakash Raj, Shaam, and Srikanth. It has a runtime of 170 minutes, and while there are some unnecessary plot points, it ultimately delivers a satisfying and emotionally charged story.

The cast of the film "Varisu" includes a star-studded lineup of actors, including Vijay, Rashmika Mandanna, Prabhu, Sarath Kumar, Prakash Raj, Jayasudha, Srikanth, Shaam, Yogi Babu, Sangeetha, and Samyuktha.
The film is helmed by director Vamshi Paidipally, who is also responsible for the story and screenplay in collaboration with Hari and Ashishor Solomon. The film is produced by a team of experienced and accomplished producers, including Dil Raju, Shirish, Param V Potluri, and Pearl V Potluri. It is presented by the banner Sri Venkateswara Creations and PVP Cinema, and features a talented team of co-producers, Sri Harshith Reddy and Sri Hanshitha.

The film's music is composed by S Thaman, while the cinematography is handled by Karthick Palani. The editing is done by KL Praveen, and the dialogues and additional screenplay are written by Vivek. Sunil Babu and Vaishnavi Reddy are in charge of the production design, and the ex-producers are B Sreedhar Rao and R Udayakumar. The makeup is done by Nagaraju, the costumes by Deepali Noor and Gopi Prasanna is in charge of the publicity designs. The VFX is handled by Yugandhar.
The recently released single "Ranjithame" from the album "Varisu" quickly became a hit. Composed by Thaman, written by Vivek and performed by Vijay and Manasi, the catchy tune and upbeat beats were a hit with Vijay's fans. Additionally, the appearance of both Vijay and Rashmika Mandanna in the music video contributed to the song's success, as their chemistry and flashy costumes captivated audiences. The track has reached 50 million views on YouTube.
