One night, a son and his father were making their way home together, each from a long day. The father was returning from a hectic day of work while the son had come from a playful day at daycare. During the ride home, the curious son stares out of the car window at the night sky and curiously asked his father,

“Umm…, Dad! Why is the moon following us?”

With a slight laughter the father responds, “Well son, the moon isn’t exactly following us, it only looks that way. You see, the moon is very big and very far away so it only looks as though it’s following us. Also, the moon is there because it's God’s way of making sure we can find our way through the dark. Sort of how I use the flashlight whenever the lights go out at home.

“Oh, OK!” replied the son.

The next morning, the father and his son head out to start another productive day of school and work. While walking out of the house the son suddenly stopped to look up at the clear, bright sky. Curiously, the son then asked his father,

“Umm…, Dad! Why is the sky blue?”

The father turns and responds, “Well son, the sky is blue because God wanted to give life to all living things so He filled the Earth with clean, fresh air for all of us to breath. Sort of how our air filter at home works to freshen the air in our house.”

“Oh, OK!” replied the son.

Later that day, the father leaves work to pick up his son from daycare. The two then head to a nearby park where the son plays alongside the other neighborhood children. As the son playfully scampered through the jungle gym with the other children he is suddenly stricken by what he sees in the sky. The curious son then quickly jumps off the jungle gym and runs over to his father to ask,

“Umm…, Dad! Why are their clouds in the sky?”

The father looks up at the sky as well before responding, “Well son, God placed clouds into the sky to protect us from the heat and harmful rays of the sun as well as bring rainwater to the ground. Sort of how our roof works to protects us from outside elements and our gutters work to send water to the ground.”

“Oh, OK!” replied the son.

Soon after their conversation, the father and son leave the park and head to a nearby grocery store. While walking through the parking lot a loud thunder unexpectedly filled the sky. The curious son jumped in fear then turned to his father and asked,

“Umm…, Dad! Why did the sky make that thunder noise?”

The father responded, “Well son, it’s God’s way of warning us when bad weather is coming so that we can prepare ourselves. Sort of how the alarm system we have at home that lets us know if someone or something bad is about to happen. So, we'd better hurry, son, if we want to make it home before the storm arrives.”

“Oh, OK!” replied the son.

After their quick stop at the store, the father and son hurries back to their car when, all of a sudden, a flash of lightning bolts across the sky. The son cringed in fear yet again, this time grabbing his father’s hand as the two quickly walked back to their car. Once inside, the curious son quickly asked his father,

“Umm…, Dad! Why did the light flash in the sky like that?”

The father responds, “Well son, it’s God’s way of providing energy to the Earth so that we can power our tools and instruments. Sort of how the battery in this car provides the energy needed to make it work.”

“Oh, OK!” replied the son.

During the drive home, it began to rain very heavily. The son stared out of the window at the raindrops as they pounded ferociously against the windows of the car. Curiously, the son then asked his father,

“Umm…, Dad! Why is there so much rain outside?”

The father responds, “Well son, it’s God’s way cleansing the world of all the dirt it has accumulated over time. Sort of how we use the shower to clean our bodies whenever we become too dirty.”

“Oh, OK!” replied the son.

Finally, the father and son make it home where they begin to put away the groceries they had just shopped for. While helping his father with the groceries the son stopped to walk over to the kitchen window where he quietly stared out at the evening sky. After a few quiet moments of thought, the curious son then asked his father,

“Umm…, Dad! Is mom’s new home like ours?”

The father pauses, puts down the groceries and walks over to his son where he then gently puts his hand on his shoulder and looks him in the eyes before responding, “Well son, I can assure you that your Mom’s new home is much better than ours, and that she’ll be waiting very patiently for us to join her someday.”

“OK Dad!” replied the son.

Quietly together, the son and his father begin to reminisce as they gaze out at the evening sky, watching, as the sun begins to peak through the clouds before eventually setting for the day.
