Bikaner was known as Jungle Desh during the rule of Rajputs in the 15th century. During the year 1488, the Rajput ruler Rao Bika had built Bikaner and also built a fort here in 1478 AD, which is currently known as Junagarh Fort. After the time of Rao Bika, major development was possible in Bikaner during the reign of Raja Rai Singh. The reign of Raja Rai Singh lasted from 1571 AD to 1611 AD.
