The Wild-Haired Monster
And the Tiny Girl with a Secret Weapon

A spaceship landed near a pond in the country just outside Skooville City. The frogs croaked loudly as out of the spaceship jumped a monster! He made a terrifying noise as he ran past them. His mangled hair stood on end and made him look even more terrifying.
He scared two cows and they ran away, tearing part of the fence down with them, which let out the chickens and they wobbled every way except back home.
The monster clomped back and forth through the streets, making the cars swerve out of his way. When the traffic lights turned red, he stomped right across the street, causing accidents all through the suburbs as he stumbled toward the CITY! Oh no!
He toppled down buildings with a single swipe of his hand. People ran screaming trying to get away from the crashing bricks and rubble.
They called the mayor, who got the fire chief because the mayor didn’t know what to do!
The firemen aimed their hoses and shot the water full blast at the monster. They tried to aim at his eyes but his matted hair got in the way. They even climbed up the crumpled buildings with their ladders to take better aim. The monster didn’t even flinch!
The army stormed in to fight him. But none of their weapons had any effect on him! The monster kept on destroying everything in his path.
He thrashed toward a shopping mall with hundreds of people inside! “What will we do?”, cried the mayor.
Then a little tiny girl named Mia, said with a small voice, “I can help.” The mayor was doubtful and stood in her way. He cried, “But the firemen and the army couldn’t stop the monster. How can you?!”
“I have a secret weapon” she said.
So the mayor stepped out of her way and watched her as she passed himself, the firemen, and even the army. She skipped on down the street toward her mother’s beauty shop. Out she came with gigantic scissors! “What’s she going to do with that?” people whispered among themselves.
But down the street after the monster, she ran. A little boy called out of his door, “You’re not supposed to run with scissors!” But on she ran.
The monster was just ahead and Mia was catching up fast! Everyone wondered what would happen. Would the monster hurt her? Would he gobble her down? No one knew. But they all watched anxiously… from a distance, from a very long distance.
Then they heard a distinct unexpected sound. It was the monster giggling. First he giggled, then he laughed and he kept on laughing as he walked hand in hand with little Mia back toward the people who had screamed running from him, the army who had fought him, the fire fighters who had sprayed him, and the mayor who had feared him.
“What happened? How did you do it?” they all asked.
“Oh it was simple, I clipped here and there and it all worked out. He was just having a bad hair day.”
She laughed. Then the monster laughed. Then the whole village laughed. And they all went to clean up their city, and suburbs, and countryside. The monster even helped too.
“What gave you such courage?” asked the Mayor.
“I just had the right secret weapon,” she said.
