Its always a gloomy day when things don’t go your way, especially when your young and have to listen to what grown ups say ‘’Don’t do this, don’t do that!’’ or mostly ‘’who was that?!’’ whenever she’d hear a loud sound. Two sisters making noise whilst playing with their toys. Graci and Alva, twins attached to the hip only because they weren't allowed on the school trip. An old house they lived in, ‘’was it always this odd?’’ said Graci to Alva ‘’something feels off’’'. Alva agrees, gets up from her knees ‘’lets take a walk’’ she whispered as she talked. Were the floors always this dusty? was it always this cold? its been a long time since we had to do as we were told.. thoughts circled through the young girls minds, with every tiny step wondering what they might find. Creeping up the stairs and about to reach the top, ‘’what was that noise? its faint, but familiar’’ Graci points out.
Puzzled by the sound, this must be it! the reason the house is feeling unfit! ‘’its time to go to bed’’ dad said as he swept both girls in his stride, then tucked into bed the girls were confused as to why? The suns still out, its probably noon. Alva then said ‘’time for bed? is it night time this soon? we haven’t been fed and there’s light peaking through the blinds’’. Dad walks out the room and responds with a sigh. ‘’I don’t think he heard you’’ Graci said worried, ‘’you should have spoke louder, so he would have heard it!’’. Alva’s face is panicked ‘’it must be the sound’’, ‘’what could it be? the noise that they heard but didn’t get to see. ‘’it must be something scary, because daddy seemed scared’’ Graci said to Alva suspicious but prepared. Alva is uncertain but nods in agreement, ‘’whatever it is, teamwork is needed!’’ together the girls grabbed all that they could, ‘’for daddy!’’ in unison giving the courage they mustered.
Tip toeing back up the stairs to the tippity top, to the room up above where they weren’t allowed to set foot. The sound getting louder, with every step they took! with the sound getting closer the more their hearts shook! Alva said to Graci stuttering her words ‘’w..h..aaat iiis it, do you think iis ma ma making that sound?’’ Graci just as frightened ‘’I I don’t know Alva, shh’’ their senses were heightened. Whoo, whoo, whoo gentle but firm. Their legs as wobbly as a wiggly worm, they pressed their ears up against the wall to hear the sound more clearly, what is it? the girls were thinking. Suddenly they hear a loud CREEK! both of them holding a scream not seeing a thing! the sounds alone was too startling.
Down the stairs they ran as quickly as they could breathe, dropping all that they were holding. Tripping over all their weapons, now they are defenceless in a moment of fear forgetting what they were defending. The sound that they heard, what could it be? ‘’what ever it is, it must be big!’’ Graci said afraid and panting. ‘’Did you feel the floor shake after it creaked? Alva responded in shock and heaving. ‘’you were gonna leave me!’’ Alva said disgruntled, ‘’No I didn’t! You tripped me’’ Graci then argued. Whoo! Again they heard the noise, even louder then before. Their faces alarmed and shooked to their core. It was then they both knew they must go up the stairs once more, to find out once and for all, what was making that sound.
The girls then thought they must come up with a plan, this time prepared so they don’t get too scared. As they sat they thought of all the things it could be, ‘’what makes a Whoo sound’’ graci said skeptically. ‘’A bee!’’ said Alva full of glee, thinking that it may have been her who made the discovery of the noise. ‘’It’s not a bee, you bum a bee goes buzzz not whooo, have you forgotten how the sound was?!’’ Graci said with her palm on her face, shaking her head believing they may never crack the case. ‘’Alva!’’ Graci explains ‘’remember that night we stayed at Aunt Abbys house in the country side? the noise that was similar and just as frightening?’’. ‘’The chicken that screamed, it was funny when mum lost dads shoe when she threw it at it to stop it from shouting’’ Alva said with a Grin. ‘’yes that was funny but not what I mean!’’ Graci continued ‘’the WHOO! the sound made near the window, it was too dark to see but we definitely heard it’’ Alvas eyes lit up as she remembers that night. ‘’An owl’’ they both shrieked in perfect harmony and bright. ‘’it must have followed us all the way home!’’ Alva said panicky ‘’what do we do? by the sound of it, it must be huge!’’. ‘’I know what to do’’ Graci said heroically, ‘’we have to scare it so it will fly away! we have to be loud and make loads of noise and it won’t stay!’’. The plan was now set, now is the time for action! its time to put an end to this owl infestation!
Like burglars' the girls pinched up their toys they dropped on the stairs, ready for battle their eyes filled with tears. Quietly and more readily now they knew what it was! they made their way to the room up above. Closer and closer the girls courage grew, they kicked open the door Alva throwing dads shoe, screaming and shouting as loud as they could as they drew their toys and threw it as hard as they could WHOO! the noise was louder than the girls anticipated. ‘’DADDY!’’ they both screamed, he came quick as lightening ‘’what are you both doing? making all of this noise mummy is unwell in bed with the flu, stop throwing your toys’’ the girls then realised it wasn’t a what that was making the sound, the what was a who and the who was mum in bed with the flu trying to tell us off for being too loud! Dad was mad but couldn’t help but laugh. ‘’you all have a fever and you all are so loud’’. Mum looked at the sisters annoyed but impressed, ‘’who was that being so loud’’ she said sickly in bed. Both girls pointing the finger at each other all snotty and ill the girls finally felt it, the flu that they caught instead of the owl had finally landed. ‘’twit’’ Graci said with a cough ‘’ter’’said Alva with a sneeze ‘’whoo?’’ said mum. ‘’Bed’’ said dad.
THE END.
