The Great Mango Heist

Gulabpur story

By Mohammad Abdul munawarPublished 11 months ago 4 min read

In the peaceful town of Gulabpur where people treated afternoon naps like a sacred ritual there lived a man named Bablu He was known for two things First his undying love for mangoes and second his extraordinary laziness Some said that Bablu had mastered the art of lying so still that even mosquitoes hesitated to land on him wondering if he was a statue

One scorching summer afternoon Bablu found himself in a deep state of misery as he watched his neighbor Chintu boasting loudly about his magnificent mango tree Chintu stood in his front yard with his arms crossed and his chest puffed up like a proud rooster He wore a smug smile as he declared to anyone who would listen that his mangoes were the juiciest the sweetest and the best in town

Bablu’s ears perked up at the word mangoes His mouth watered at the thought of sinking his teeth into the golden flesh of a perfectly ripe mango But there was one tiny problem Chintu was the most paranoid man in Gulabpur He guarded his mango tree like a dragon guarding its treasure He had gone to extreme lengths to protect his mangoes installing fake CCTV cameras placing a sign that read Beware Thieves will be cursed with endless hiccups and even training his dog Golu to bark at anyone who dared to glance at the tree

Despite all these obstacles Bablu was not one to be discouraged He had stolen mangoes before and he would steal them again He just needed a foolproof plan That night under the cover of darkness Bablu dressed entirely in black ready to embark on his daring mission He imagined himself as a stealthy ninja but in reality he looked more like a poorly wrapped burrito He tiptoed out of his house with the determination of a man on a sacred quest

As he approached Chintu’s backyard Bablu took a deep breath He had to be careful One wrong move and his plan would be ruined He slowly climbed over the wall making sure not to make a sound But just as he landed softly on the ground he heard a loud and unmistakable noise Meow

Bablu froze His heart pounded in his chest like a drum sitting on the wall staring at him with judgmental eyes was Chintu’s pet cat Dholu Bablu knew that Dholu was no ordinary cat It was the self proclaimed guardian of the house and it took its job very seriously

Shhh Dholu I will get you some fish tomorrow Bablu whispered desperately hoping to bribe the furry gatekeeper But Dholu simply licked its paw and continued to glare at him as if to say You think I can be bought Think again

Bablu had no time to waste He had to move fast Ignoring the cat he darted towards the mango tree and stretched out his hand towards a perfect looking mango Just as his fingers wrapped around the fruit a loud bark shattered the silence

BARK BARK BARK

Bablu’s blood turned cold Golu the ferocious watchdog had spotted him The entire street erupted in chaos Lights flickered on Doors creaked open and before Bablu could react Chintu stormed out of his house looking furious He held a slipper in his hand gripping it like a warrior about to go into battle

WHO DARES TO TOUCH MY MANGOES Chintu bellowed his voice echoing through the street

Bablu knew he had to think fast Desperate he did the only thing that came to his panicked mind He grabbed Dholu and held the cat up like a hostage If you come any closer I will give the cat a belly rub he threatened

Chintu gasped in horror You monster Dholu hates belly rubs

In the distraction Bablu tossed the cat gently aside grabbed a handful of mangoes and sprinted away running faster than he had ever run before He could hear Chintu shouting behind him but he did not dare look back He was too focused on making his grand escape

Finally after what felt like an eternity Bablu reached his house He collapsed onto his floor panting but victorious He had done it He had pulled off the greatest mango heist in the history of Gulabpur He grinned as he picked up one of the mangoes and took a big bite

But the moment the mango touched his tongue his smile vanished His face twisted in horror The mango was so sour it felt like he had just bitten into a raw lemon His dreams of sweet delicious mangoes crumbled before his eyes

Just then there was a knock at his door Bablu swallowed nervously When he opened the door he found Chintu standing there with his arms crossed and a smug smile on his face

You might have stolen my mangoes Chintu said shaking his head But you forgot one thing

Bablu gulped What did I forget

Chintu smirked They were not ripe yet

Bablu stared at the mango in his hand feeling utterly defeated He had risked his life his dignity and his sanity for a bunch of unripe mangoes He sighed deeply realizing that he had learned an important lesson that night Always check if the mango is ripe before stealing it

And with that the great mango heist ended not with victory but with Bablu learning the hard way that sometimes patience is better than theft
