The Fox’s House and the Rooster on the Roof
By Faramarz Parsa

Once upon a time, there was a sly fox who crept into the village every night, stealing hens and chicks from the farmers. The old farm dog was no longer strong like before. He fell asleep early, snoring beside the gate, leaving the henhouse unguarded. That made the fox’s work easy—too easy.

But one night, the rooster had had enough. He puffed his chest and said to himself,
“I must find out where that sneaky fox lives! Maybe then I can stop him for good.”

So when darkness fell and the stars filled the sky, the rooster stayed awake, hiding behind the bushes near the coop. The dog was already snoring, and soon enough, the fox appeared—soft steps, bright eyes, and that same sly grin. He grabbed a hen and trotted off toward the forest, his tail swinging proudly. The rooster followed quietly, careful not to make a sound.

The fox walked happily through the moonlit woods, thinking of his tasty dinner, never realizing that someone was following him. He reached a small wooden house deep in the forest. He went inside, yawned, and began to eat. The rooster waited a moment, then fluttered up to the roof and perched above the fox’s cozy home

When the fox finally finished his meal and stretched out on his bed, the rooster took a deep breath and crowed:
“Cock-a-doodle-doo! Cock-a-doodle-doo!”

The fox jumped up in fright.
“Who’s there? What’s that noise?!” he shouted.
Then he ran outside and saw the rooster sitting proudly on his roof.
“Get off my house, you rude bird!” the fox barked.
But the rooster ignored him and sang again, even louder:
“Cock-a-doodle-doo! Cock-a-doodle-doo!”

The fox covered his ears and went back inside, but as soon as he closed his eyes, the rooster began again.
All night long, the sound echoed through the trees.
The poor fox couldn’t sleep a wink. His head hurt, his eyes burned, and his tail twitched from anger.

.The next morning, the rooster was still singing.
The fox groaned, “If I don’t sleep, how can I hunt tonight?”
But the rooster just laughed and sang louder

That was exactly what the clever rooster wanted — to keep the fox awake so he couldn’t return to the farm.
The rooster sang day and night without rest.
“Cock-a-doodle-doo! Cock-a-doodle-doo!”

Two long days passed. The fox was weak from hunger and lack of sleep. Finally, he shouted,
“That’s enough! I can’t stand this noise anymore!”
He packed his things and ran far, far away — so far that he could no longer hear a single “Cock-a-doodle-doo” again.

The rooster, proud and tired, stretched his wings and smiled. He had won!
He flew down from the roof and happily walked back to the farm. The hens and chicks cheered when they saw him return.
From that day on, the fox was never seen near the farm again.
And every morning, the rooster proudly sang his victory song:
“Cock-a-doodle-doo! Cock-a-doodle-doo!”

Because he knew that wisdom and courage can win even without strength.
