The Rain Worm and the Sparrow

A gentle story of courage, kindness, and the magic of friendship beneath the rain

By Ebrahim ParsaPublished 2 months ago 2 min read

Once upon a time, in a small green garden, there lived a little rain worm.

He loved the soft, cool soil where he could curl and twist all day long, humming his own tiny songs that no one could hear but the earth itself.

Life was simple and peaceful for him, especially after a good rain when the ground was damp and full of sweet smells.

But one hot morning, the sun rose early and fierce.

The rain hadn’t fallen for days, and the soil had started to dry and crack.

The little worm, feeling the heat, came out from the ground to find a cooler spot.

Just as he reached the edge of the garden, a sudden gust of wind lifted him up and rolled him out onto the hard, dry dirt outside.

The ground there was rough and burning.

He wriggled and stretched, trying to crawl back to the garden, but every time he moved forward, his body slipped back.

He was growing weaker.

Then, suddenly, a shadow passed over him.

The worm lifted his tiny head and saw a sparrow standing above him.

Her bright eyes sparkled, and her little beak opened with delight.

“Ah!” said the sparrow cheerfully. “What a plump and tasty worm you are!”

The poor worm trembled. His tiny heart beat fast.

But then, an idea came to him. He smiled softly and said,

“Oh kind sparrow, please don’t eat me yet! If you help me get back into the garden, I will show you where many more worms live.

They are even fatter and juicier than I am!”

The sparrow blinked with excitement.

“Really? You mean there are enough worms for me and my friends too?”

The clever worm nodded.

“Oh yes! Many of them! They hide under the cool, wet leaves near the pond.

But first, you must help me get back to the garden soil. Only then can I lead you there.”

The sparrow thought for a moment and then smiled.

“Deal! You are a very helpful worm!” she said.

She gently picked him up with her beak and carried him back to the soft garden, placing him carefully among the fresh soil.

The rain worm sighed with relief as he felt the damp earth beneath him again.

“You are such a kind sparrow!” he said. “Now, go tell your friends to come here. I’ll show you all the worms you want.”

The sparrow chirped happily and flew away to bring her friends.

But as soon as she disappeared, the little worm chuckled to himself.

Now safe and sound, he began to sing a cheerful tune:

🎵

“I tricked the sparrow high,

Her beak said bye-bye!

She picked me up so neat,

Then dropped me at my feet!”

🎵

From that day on, the worm never forgot how thinking calmly could save a life.

He learned that wisdom and patience were often stronger than fear.

And every time the rain fell and the smell of wet earth filled the air, he smiled and remembered the sparrow who once saved him without knowing she’d been tricked.

And what about the sparrow?

She flew from garden to garden for many days, still looking for those “many fat worms” that never were.

🌱 Dear children, remember this:

Sometimes, when we stay calm and think carefully, we can find a way out of our troubles.

And being greedy or too trusting can make us lose what we already have.

Even a tiny worm can teach a big lesson — if we listen closely enough.
