While going through puberty, your reproductive organs develop and mature, allowing you to become a sexually mature adult. Puberty brings about a variety of changes in the body that can seem almost magical. However, what many people don't realize is that puberty actually begins in the brain. Typically, puberty is initiated when a specialized hormone is released in waves from a region of the brain known as the hypothalamus. This usually occurs between the ages of 9 and 14. Unfortunately, as much as we may wish to go to bed as a child and wake up as an adult, the maturation process is gradual, and puberty can last for up to 4 to 5 years.
