grandparents
Becoming a grandparent makes getting older something to look forward to - all the fun of parenting, without the hassle.
My Grandma, the ghost guardian
I never knew my paternal grandma, she died before I could form any memory of her. I met my maternal grandma maybe three times in my life, so I missed that bond between grandmothers. Truth be told, both of my grandfathers also died before I was born. It never really impacted my upbringing then, but now I hear others sing of all the many wonderful virtues of grandparents and realize how much I had missed.

Two Brave Women
Many women inspire me in my life, but I would be amiss if I didn’t start talking about an experience my mother had when she was a teenager. For some context, my maternal grandmother was French and married my American grandfather shortly after WWII. They met during the end of the war while my grandfather was stationed there to help build airfields for the Allied planes to land on. They lived in America and had three children, the oldest being my gentle mother.

Are You Hungry?
“Are you hungry?” were often the first words one heard when they came into my Grandmas house. The Power of a Mother's Love
My Dad called mom “Sparky”. She asked once why, and he responded “It should be obvious. You light up every place you enter.” My mom’s smile, laugh, and overall presence lit up the world around her. She brightened every room with her attitude and outlook on life. The glass was always half full and always available to be shared. I learned hospitality from my mom. Any meal can be made to accommodate one more person. There is no such thing as scarcity, we share what we have and there will always be enough.
