grandparents
Becoming a grandparent makes getting older something to look forward to - all the fun of parenting, without the hassle.
Star Riders For Life.
My grandpa used to tell a story about people who didn't care about anything. They just lived and lived. At times they wondered the meaning of their living but it never made them care about anything. When I say care I don’t mean respect, because these people kept their bodies and belongings pristine. When I say care I mean offense.

The Snowbirds
My grandparents always went to Florida during the winter months. They were what some people refer to as “snowbirds”. Living in western Pennsylvania has many advantages but also some disadvantages. Winter is considered a disadvantage to some people and my grandmother was one of those people. My grandparents first started going to Florida for a few months in the winter in the 1970’s. Winters in western Pennsylvania were much worse in years past. The snow would be like walls on each side of the road. I can remember there being many blizzards growing up. Today, western Pennsylvania winters are much milder.

GRANNY FOREVER
Sometimes the best things in life we take for granted, and sometimes it's the relationships with the people we love the most. I've written a few ideas to spark your creativity and help you truly show your appreciation for your grandmother in particular. Grandmas make the world go around, so now is the time to say thank you. Time is precious in every relationship — make it count!

Little Black Bird
There are three things Dani thought of when she met Michael. One, he was a spoiled, entitled brat. Two, he had no clue how to talk to women. And the third was that he seemed to get it all from his disloyal, cowardly grandfather. The same grandfather who had broken her grandmother's hearts all those years ago. Her grandmother Julie, told her the story every night before bed. About how William Callahan had swept her off her feet like a fairytale prince. How the two of them had planned to run away and leave their awful families behind. And how on the night they were meant to leave she waited for him only to be visited by his mother who informed Julie that he wouldn't be joining her and had chosen a life with the beautiful and rich Victoria Bishop. He had sent his mother to break up with Julie, too much of a coward to face her himself. She watched her grandmother pine for William Callahan all her life, heartbroken.

A Bit of What You Fancy
I am an almost-adult — I have a job and several longterm pot plants, if not a flat or a boyfriend — and yet when I saw Joe Hardy again I felt like a nervous teen. My god, I told myself, you’ve got a Masters degree and a thriving Peace Lily, you should be able to get a grip. I knew that the right thing to do was go and comfort him, but I was too proud. Instead, I moved only to push aside my Grandma’s white, net curtains, spying on him like some ageing member of the Neighbourhood Watch.

Grandma Shirley
“Hey, Deighton, look here‘s the turkey wish bone from Thanksgiving that has been drying out on the windowsill! Let‘s make a wish!” Nana hands the bone to her grandson as each of them count 1,2, 3 and they pull hard on three. “ I wish Grandma Shirley will go back to being normal” Deighton said as he pulled and watched Grandma Shirley talk to her imaginary friend and says, “ I said right now! Get those shoes on! Clean up that mess RIGHT NOW!!!” Grandma Shirley demands of an imaginary child that is in the shape of a pillow. She swats the pillow while saying , “we‘re going HOME!” “ Let’s go.” says Nana as she motions to Deighton to go downstairs to let Grandma Shirley have space. Grandma Shirley is “Great Grandma and Nana is just regular grandma, Grandma Shelly. Nana has been taking care of Grandma Shirley for six and a half years. Nana has a camera on Grandma Shirley so that she can make sure grandma is safe and so that Deighton doesn’t have to listen to the negativity of Grandma Shirley. They lock the door to keep Grandma Shirley safe upstairs and to keep her away from the stairs. Nana always has eyes on Grandma Shirley, tho.

Grandma's Garden And The Life
During the school holidays, there was always only one destination for me - Granny's house. I could tell a lot about that time. I could rave about what it was like to spend a childhood without the internet and mobile phones, playing outside all day and roaming the pastures.

The Edith Dress
My maternal grandmother’s maiden name was Edith Charlotte Laskowski. She passed away in January of 2012. Thinking back to my grandma, I never associated the words loving, happy, warm, or even maternal with her. When it was grandparent’s day at school, she never came. It was always my grandpa who came and who I absolutely adored. My grandma never told jokes, laughed, or even smiled that I can remember. She was the grandma who would pat you on the back but never give you a hug. The fact that children didn’t bring out the nurturing side of her made it odd that she was the director of a daycare center.
