THE LIFE OF A BREAST FEEDING MOTHER
Do you cover your chips when eating? I think not. Are you ashamed to be seen drinking a drink? Again i think not. There is a culture of being uncomfortable that shadows breast feeding, the glares from both men and women is highly annoying. Babies are people and just like everyone else they need feeding, if i chose to whip my boob out then i should receive a well done. It is funny when someone hears a baby crying in public the first comment that comes out of a mouth is "is she not going to feed the baby". Hold on wait, so you want me to feed the baby but i should not feed him with my breast? You can’t be serious!

Worries of a Mother
Becoming a mother is a hard enough job as is, let alone being a mother to a child of a different race. As a Caucasian woman I’ve never had to personally experience racism. However, my boyfriend of five years is Puerto Rican, and he has experienced prejudice throughout his life. I believe as a whole that white people are out of touch with the fact that racism is still very much alive in America. Of course, a group of people who don’t experience racism aren’t going to see that it is still an ongoing issue. It can be hard to relate to something you’ve never witnessed first hand.

My Body Failed Me
Last night I did something really dumb…. I was browsing Facebook after my son had finally gone to bed and I came across a story titled “Privileged Woman Dials 911 for Formula at 2am After Breastmilk ‘Suddenly’ Dries Up” or something like that. Typically I would have known better, but to be honest, I was two glasses of wine deep and was feeling a bit invincible so I decided to read the comments.

My Babies
I had 6 pregnancies. 3 babies. I totally believe in folic acid working miracles. The 3 miscarriages I had I never took folic acid; the 3 successful pregnancies I did. My 1st pregnancy occurred the summer before I married while working as a Pesticide Sprayer. I woke up one morning spotting and in pain. So Alex, my fiance at the time, and I did not go out spraying. I was in severe pain. I handle pain well, but this pain was bad. I had horrible cramps. I ended up going to the hospital. It was a waste of time. They did a urine pregnancy test but not a blood test. I was probably only about 2 or 3 weeks pregnant. We went back to the hotel room where I was hurdled over in agony for the rest of the day. A hot bath did not help. I do not remember if the pain was only that one day or if it lingered. When I got back home I ended up seeing my family doctor on the advice at the hospital. My family doctor figured, after hearing my symptoms and upon examination, that it was an ectopic pregnancy. So luckily I miscarried it myself and further complications did not occur.

The Elsa Dress
To give a little context I’m compiling a series of stories over the past seven years. One Friday afternoon in April 2013 with only a few hours-notice we began to care for my partners two nephews full-time. No notice, no preparation and no hand-book.
