We Chose To Stop At One Child
Last year, there was one kid in my daughter’s class who didn’t have siblings. Mine. I don’t think the teacher realized this. But when they would talk about playing or home life, they often talked about their brothers and sisters. My kid would come home and ask when she would have one. She would talk about wanting one, I think, mainly because her friends all had one.

The Wooden Photo Box
"I've got to make one stop before we go to your parent's house," he said firmly just in case she argued back. She rolled her eyes at him and sadly shook her head saying, "oh, no not this again. You've been doing this for the last ten years."

A Christmas Letter To My Little Girl
It's that time of year again, Christmas time, a holiday that brings families together every year in celebration of gift giving and good eating. Unfortunately, it hasn't really been the joyous occasion that it normally is for me these last couple of years. The reason for that is simple... it's because these last couple of years I haven't been able to spend Christmas with the most important person in my life... I haven't been able to spend them with you.

Paper & Pencil - A Holiday Tradition
At a young age, my mother instilled in her children the practice of hand making cards and the sentimental value held within a simple, wispy piece of paper. Especially during the holidays, my mom's favorite part isn't the unwrapping of her gifts, but cracking open the cards made by her children.

Christmas Angel
It is two weeks before Christmas and I enter my local Walmart. We are here to get basic household stuff and upon entering my three-year-old son sees the Christmas tree. This tree becomes the focus on his attention, and he starts with the questions right away.

They stole them with my love
It was the end of July before I was able to see the children again. I was at the county building with bells on. I was so excited to see them; I have missed them so much. Before they even brought them into the room, Ms. McGross took me into her office and proceeded to tell me that AareOna has some bruises and swelling on her face. She said that another little foster boy had some anger issues and took them out on my daughter. I was upset by this. What mother would not be? She led me back to the visiting room without saying another word.

The Magic of Holiday Card Outtakes
Ahhh, Christmas card photos… the one picture you take that either serves as a highlight for the year, or a window into the chaos of real life. As 2020’s holiday season hits its peak, I realized I didn’t do a Christmas photo to commemorate this year. Maybe I’ll snap a few cute pictures of my dog and surly teens on the holiday to post on social media, but I didn’t even think of a Christmas photo this year. Who wants to commemorate this period of time that feels like the last semester of clown college?

Compassion of a Two Year Old
In this ever growing world we do not see a lot of compassion towards one another. When we do, it is rare and a shame we do not see it often. It takes parents, and grandparents, even aunts and uncles to help young children learn to value another. At some point we all lose sight of it.

2020-The Big One
I get it. Life sucks right now. I'm not even going to try to sugar coat that shit. Between homeschooling, and working from home, most of the time simultaneously. It's not uncommon to be in a meeting with a colleague, and a kiddo runs around naked and/or screaming "MAMA MAMA POOOOOP POOOOOP!!" 2020 sucks THE BIG ONE. There I said it again. SUCKS.S-U-C-K-S. And then as if it can't get any worse, our kids suffer physical contact with friends. No high 5's, no hugs, no playing tag or any contact game/sport.

Toddler Life
My kids make every day crazy fun. There was a moment that I stood to the side, and listened to my boys play. Apparently on this faithful day Billy the Blue Power Ranger toy had to rescue the mermaid from Miles spider man, and Spider-man had to decide what team he was going to fight on. Now I listened to this adventure for a good minute, even their sister got involved because well they was playing with her toy.
