Circles
Some people live their lives in circles. Sometimes kids watch their dads do terrible things, take terrible substances, and drink terrible things. They make vows, ‘I’ll never be that way.’ Or promises. ‘I swear that will never be me.’ Although some see bad things and take them as normal. They continue it because it’s all they know. However, some go back and forth. Life isn’t easy.

Masonisms
Masonisms Some of the most brilliant people have Autism. This kid is not less than a genius. He's socially awkward and has trouble with social reciprocity. He does not understand vague or abstract concepts. He's 18 now and over the years I have kept up with the funniest things he's said. They have been dubbed "Masonisms". I hope you enjoy this (mostly) funny little bit of my life with Mason.

Summertime Crunch
Summer Crunch – Tim McGahren Summertime in Georgia looms close and when you are not being overwhelmed by the peach state heat, main activities here include drinking beverages from mason jars, stupor sleeping, mopping off sweat, avoiding the outdoors, and eating (mostly dense) summertime foods. There is also a number of old-timey Georgia things we do here, but we don't share those with outsiders.

Happy Birthday, Peaches!
A fly cuts through the muggy air to land on my forearm and suckles at the water droplets sliding down my skin. Normally I’d shoo him away without second thought, but right now I only have enough energy to witness. Charmed, I smile at the humble creature; grateful for a reason to dial down my focus to the rainbow of his gossamer wings.

It’s Stuck to the Roof of My Mouth!
Today as I was packing a picnic lunch to take to community swimming pool…I realized I have become bougie! I actually began to laugh as I pulled out the cooler that was big to hold 2 bottles of wine and the sliced up meat, cheese and fruit for a portable charcuterie board. I thought to myself “when did I become this person?” As I continued to gather my sunscreen, sunhat and watershoes; I began to think back to when I was a kid. All we had was our bathing suits, a towel with a hole in it (my mama said we couldn’t use the hood towels cause we might lose them) $2 dollars for a couple of snow cones and a brown paper bag lunch. We were (as my memaw used to say) happier than a pig in slop!

Sunburnt Sprinkles . Top Story - June 2022.
We rode bikes down sloped lawns into flooded streets, hitting the water with the tenacity of kamikaze pilots. We waged wars with squirt guns in worlds that didn’t exist, with battle lines drawn in the sunburnt driveways of Merritt Island, Florida. My summers were bright, magical, and long, yawning wide through the eyes of a child.
