Raised By A Narcissist And An Empath
The definition of a narcissist is, "a person who has excessive interest in or admiration of themselves" so, this means they care about nothing and no one except themselves. On the other spectrum, the definition of an empath is, "a person with the paranormal ability to apprehend the mental or emotional state of another individual" so this means sometimes caring to much for others and not enough about themselves. Put the two together and add parenting and you get a complete disaster.

Nursing Home Abuse Red Flags to Watch Out For
The vagaries and difficulties of old age are well documented. Unfortunately, it seems like every day we live past 25, everything becomes a little bit harder; a little more complicated than it used to be, with less energy to bear, and less time on our hands.

The Struggle Between Sickness and Strength
The Struggle Between Sickness and Strength My mom’s voice echoes in my head, “ Do you have any questions?” The question itself hangs in the air like a fog following a storm that has yet to settle. Do I have any questions, she asks? I appreciate her concern, but what about her? Is she okay? Is she going to be okay? Is she scared? Is she asking the vary question no one has the answer to? -- Is she going to live? My mom has been through so many things, her battles linger in my head like a war cry as she announces the next battle to come -- the ultimate battle: The one against cancer. The sword of this battle is set in my shaking hands, her presence weighs on my shoulders. There is no greater obstacle in life than learning how to overcome something you cannot control. This is the obstacle that will make every other struggle seem unimportant.

From Bottles to Bottles
"Mommy, will you take our order?" my four- year old yells from her chair. She smiles broadly as I run off to the kitchen to prepare her peach slices, my two- year old son's Frosted Flakes, and check on the biscuits I have in the oven. As I explain to an insistent and angry toddler that the biscuits have to cook and I can only bring them so fast, my 15 years in the Bar and Restaurant industry serve me well. I might as well be back at Waffle House denying a tipsy clubber his biscuits and sausage gravy at 3 am. Somehow my sober son manages to be more belligerent, but he is no match for me, who has distracted and calmed him by the time he realizes he has a biscuit in front of him. With the pandemic, illness, and baby number three forcing my hand into full restaurant and bar retirement, I thought embracing my stay-at-home mom persona would change me and found it was not much different than managing the bar on a busy night. I break up fights, people fall over a lot, and I'm cleaning up more vomit than anybody is paying me for. I'm still up at three am, I have to cut people off because they will drink chocolate milk until they throw up, and the newborn gets really handsy.

What to Do When a Child Uses Hurtful Words
If you’ve noticed some negative shifts in your kid's behavior. They've probably also started using some really hurtful mean words. And some of them increase hitting and tantrums. You have definitely entered the power struggle stage. They’ve started saying things like I don’t like you and you’re mean and you’re not my friend. Sometimes they’ll even say I hope you die.

Mama
I know what it’s like to not have a mom, I know what it’s like to fail like you have failed your mom because you don’t know what she would want you to do. I know what it is like to feel like the one person that you wanted to be there for all your success isn’t there. I know what it feels like to feel like you’re letting her down each time one thing in life goes wrong. You feel like she is the only one that you ever wanted to truly make proud the one that you wanted to hear scream as you walked across the stage at graduation, the one that you wanted to hold your hand as you brought your baby into the world.
