She was a real hard ass and never listened to me or much of my valid complaints, but that's another story. I was your typical sticks and bones white kid, living out in the boonies. I thought I was "normal". Turns out, things got a lot more abnormal as I grew up, and then I started discovering all the abnormal that had always existed. I just didn't know what it was, until then.

Simpler Times
Something I miss are the simpler times in life. The times where my brother, Jessie, and I would had mud fights in the front yard, or when we would go on spider hunts and tape spiders to the wall for fun - because what five year olds weren't a little psycho. The simpler time in my life where I only had to worry about what the weather was going to be like the next day, or what I was going to eat for lunch. Or the times in my life where I was so happy and loving life that I didn’t let anything get me down except when my parents wouldn’t let me go out on a school night.

I knew when she kicked me out, my mother was seeing a sadness, reflected through me, that she couldn’t face that day. But change came, and when it did, She took my mother with a fierce force, rescued her from her grief, soothed the aches of trauma that had seeped itself into her bones and invited her to breathe again. She swept her up into her arms, held space for her gently, and loosened the taps so the build up of her emotions that formed cancer cells in her uterus, could now flow. So that from the backlog of murky waters, clear streams of consciousness would now be known. I wasn’t there when the floodgates opened for her, yet somehow I know that day well.
