Strength of Friendship

Finding a second family

By Sid Aaron HirjiPublished 4 years ago Updated 2 years ago 1 min read

When I am around you I can call this place my home.

I ran from myself and always thought I’d end up all alone.

When I needed to hide from myself you were there.

The days when I was locked in a room facing an unbeatable war,

You found the key to my struggles and opened the door.

When I struggled to breathe and gasped for air,

You calmed me down and told me that you care.

Whether it be cardiac arrest or heart pounding out of my chest

I feel so strong and I won’t kneel except to show you how I feel.

Days when I feel troubled and flawed,

You know it is my heart that needs to be unthawed.

No matter what words I say to you in a negative conversation,

You treat me whole with no false promises or persuasion.

When my world felt like it had fallen apart,

You tore down all barriers and opened your heart.

Times when nothing seemed to go right,

You reached out and turned on the light.

Whether it be cardiac arrest or my heart pounding out of my chest,

I feel undefeated and free and will only bow down to thank you for watching over me.

When I felt down and there was no hope,

I turned around and you were there.

You have always tide me with warmth with your concerns,

No words you tell me have cacophonies or burns.

After everything I have been through,

I treasure every moment I am with you.

For me to feel this way is something new.

Whether it be cardiac arrest or my heart pounding out of my chest,

I can always count on you,

The world may have changed but I feel there is nothing that I can’t do.

Thanks to my friends who remained true.
