A Little About Me!

Hi, it is nice to meet you! I am Rose Lewis and I live in Alaska. I blog about my Alaska Adventures! I have had many camping and fishing adventures! I have been camping since I was twenty and now I am a senior I live alone with my toy poodle and cat. I was born and raised in Connecticut and moved to Alaska in the year 1979. I moved to Alaska with my family, and I have two daughters but my husband died early! I have gone camping on the East Coast, Canada, and Alaska. We drove from Connecticut to Alaska and reached the home which we bought in Eagle River. I love to fish and camp my stories in the blog are all about my camping and fishing. All the stories are true some are sad and some are funny and exciting! The story I like is where we were camping in Talkeetna Alaska! Here let me tell you that story!

We decided to go fishing and camping in Talkeetna, my daughter and grand daughter came with us too! I and my husband drove to pick up my daughter and grandaughter in Big Lake! The drive is a two -hour drive to talkeetna! The drive there was beautiful it was a sunny day. We drove to the camping ground and found a spot. We set up the campsite and we all wanted coffee and to relax. We made a fire in the fire pit and put the coffee on to brew! I love drinking campfire coffee it is nothing like it! When the coffee was brewed we sat by the fire and drank a nice cup of coffee. It was getting late so all of us went into the tents to go to sleep. When we awoke the next morning we cooked breakfast and of course, had our coffee!

We talked for a while and then decided to try our luck fishing! We were at a lake and we fished for Rainbow Trout! We had the blow- up boats and put them into the water. My daughter and granddaughter stayed on land, and fished! We rowed where the deep water was and put the lines in the water! We were getting bites but not on the hook, we fished there for a little while and then rowed to a different spot! Well, that did not work and we wondered where all the fish were at! We were hungry so we went to shore to have lunch! My daughter was cooking and boy the smell of the food was amazing! She was cooking beans and had hot dogs and hamburgers ready to put on the grill. Of course, there was a pot of coffee brewing too! When the food was cooked we sat and had a great meal!

My husband then said to us if we would hike up the hill with him! We told him that we would but he had to take protection because of Bears! I knew we were in bear country and my daughter knew it too! A while after we ate we walked up the hill with no siting of a bear! When we came to a clearing we walked and we were exploring to see what we could see! We did that for a while and suddenly I got really tired from all the hiking. I had my toy poodle with me and he was following me every step of the way! I yelled to my daughter I was tired and I was going to go down the hill alone! She yelled back at me and said to me I do not think you should go down alone! I looked at her and she said to wait for Ken and we will all go down the hill together!

I looked at her and said o.k. I will wait for Ken and we will all go together! Whamow no sooner did I say that we looked and saw a black bear! The bear was only ten feet from us and we had nothing to scare the bear away! My toy poodle ran in the back of me and sat down! We looked at the bear and the bear looked at us! We froze and looked at the bear and I prayed that the bear would go on its way! Luckily my dog just sat there and did not bark and I was glad of it! My daughter and granddaughter did not say anything either! It seemed like a million years we were looking at the bear! After the bear looked at us he bolted and ran! My husband was walking that is when we yelled to him there is a bear in the back of you! He ran and the bear took off in a different direction! Come to find out my husband did not even have a gun!

He ran as fast as he could and then he saw the bear running in a different direction! Wow was he really lucky, we all were for that matter! My husband ran to us and asked us if we were all right! We told him we were and all of us are fine! I told him I had enough and that I wanted to go to the camp! We all agreed and made the trip to the camp, we were talking loudly and I kept an eye on my dog! It seemed like a long hike but it was not and we got to the campsite in record time! My husband started a fire and put the coffee on, my nerves were in an uproar and so was my daughters! We needed some coffee to settle out nerves! We were glad the bear went on his own way and did not harm or kill us! And the bear could have also killed my toy poodle! One bite from the bear I would not have my dog! We are all lucky the way it turned out! After this incidence with the bear, we avoided going camping and fishing in Talkeetna!
