You were my role model, my hero, and my Grandmother. You were there for us when our parents had to work. You were there for every local United Kennel Club tournament I was competing in. You were there for every basketball game and chorus concert. Thank you. Even when I knew you shouldn't have shown up. You still came to my Jr. & Sr. prom pictures, my Sr. Homecoming, and by the Grace of God you were able to make it to my Graduation. Thank you.

I still use the strength you taught me to have as a child. Today as an adult and a mother. The stories of how you grew up during World War One in England. Having to act as an adult before your time, so you could help take care of everyone. The stories of how when you arrived here and “family” treated you the way they did. You never bent to their games. You stood strong and proud. I’m glad to be your blood, your granddaughter.

I keep your picture close by so I will never forget you. I show it to your grandchildren often. I’m scared I will. It pains me everyday that you were only able to know you were going to have your very first grandchild, a grandson. That you never got to hold him. I know you are all of your grandchildren's guarding Angel now. Looking down from the Heavens. That helps me stay strong.

You taught me so many little reading and writing games as a child. Things you were able to still remember from when you were a child in England, then an elementary teacher. I wish I could remember them all. The ones I do remember I am passing down to your Great Grandchildren. You would be so proud of them. I wish it was you teaching them. I know it would go a lot smoother than me making some of it up as I go.

My Husband made sure we had our wedding at your house. This way I could have you there. He loves you just as much as I do. I’m glad you were able to meet my soulmate before you passed. He told me years after you left. That you pulled him aside and told him you were proud of him. That we were going to make it, to take care of me. Here we are years down the road. Still in Love, raising a family on the beliefs and family traditions you taught me as a child. Thank you. I pray we will make the 61 year mark as you and Grandpapa did. If by God’s will one of us should go. I pray it's the way you both did. In old age with only days without each other.

I miss you Grandmama and I love you. I know you are up in Heaven singing Amazing Grace and Saints are Coming home. Watching all of us grow up and protecting your grandchildren when you can. Thank you.

If it wasn’t for your love and patience for me as a child. I would not be the woman I am today. Your loving guidance is what made the gentle side of me possible and still here. Even with every attempt from the Devil himself to smother it out. I hope I am making you proud. If not, please keep watching I am still walking down this hard road called life. I will one day. Hopefully one day here soon the road will become smoother, the sun will shine brighter behind the dark grey clouds.
