My Inspiration

Hi, my name is Ayesha Hynes, and today I'm going to be telling you about the woman who inspires me the most, my Nan. My Nan is a very special person in my life, she has always been there for me, she is very kind and a great roll model.

Why does she inspire me?

My Nan helps me to be a better person because she teaches me right from wrong and is always willing to teach me new things. No matter what I want to do she always helps me, for example, recently I wanted to learn how to sew, guess who taught me how to do this? My Nan! And when I wanted to learn how to cook? Yep my Nan taught me how to make a special recipe so I could surprise my Mum. She does all this and so much more.

One of the many reasons I look up to my Nan so much, is her love and kindness towards animals, she teaches me about why its important to care for animals, and to give them love, kindness and respect. My Nan and Mum are the reason I'm a vegetarian. They always believed that I could do whatever I put my mind to and told me to never give up, because of this I was able to make the decision to not eat meat anymore. I have been a vegetarian for 4 years now, that's how big of an influence they are to me.

My Nan inspires me to care for and love animals, that's probably why I have 3 dogs, 3 ferrets, a guinea pig and whole bunch of fish! She has taught me how fun it is to care for something and how much love you get in return.

My Nan was born in 1945 and has had a passion for animals all her life and has always had a soft spot for anything that needs taking care of. She has saved birds, turtles, mice, cats, dogs...everything!

I remember once when a bird it hit the window and she held it and kept it warm until it flew away. Whenever she sees a turtle on the road and she picks them up and carries them to the side of the road so they don't get hit. She once told me a story from when she was a girl, my Nan was at the beach with her family and there was a mouse scared and hiding by a stone wall, she went over to it and picked up. The scared little mouse sat in her hands for a long time, then my Nan carried it over the wall to safety.

My Nan has always loved animals but really got involved in the animal rights movement in around 1980. She was made aware of all the cruelty that happens to animals when she saw a dog being tortured and killed so people could eat him. From then on she became vegetarian and started helping people see what really happens in the world. During this time she was very involved, went to lots of protests and was the spokesperson for many animal rights groups.

My Nan has always been very selfless, she will do anything for anyone. She goes out of her way to care for people and animals and she is the kindest person I know. Just the other day we had a raccoon in our garden that was obviously not well so we called my Nan and she came right over to catch him and take him to Sandy Pines Wildlife Center so he could be treated and cared for by wildlife experts.

These are just some of the reasons why my Nan means the world to me. I have so many inspirational women in my life but my Nan is one of the most important. We should all do our best to be more like her. Thank you.
