How to choose your utility? Which cube to choose? These are essential concepts for a move. If you are wrong, this will be the best way to miss your move. Also, we tell you everything about it.
Why choose a van for a move?
Are you getting ready to move? All right, I hope it's in a pleasant place. In any case, you will need something to carry your belongings. The right solution is to rent a utility vehicle. Transporting everything with a car is not a very good idea. Some furniture may not fit in it, or even on your roof bars. You can damage your car. You will make an incredible number of round trips, which will cost you fuel. But in addition… You will waste a lot of time. However, time is often what we need most in a movie. Believe in my long experience which counts no less than 12 personal moves (I'm not even talking about those of friends).
Which cube to choose?
Estimating the required cubage for your move is vital. If you make a mistake you lose time, and money, but also helps. Indeed, if you could not put everything in the first truck, you will have to rent a second one, necessarily on a different day, urgently, and your friends will not necessarily be as available as on a date chosen in advance. . The commercial vehicle is, therefore, to be chosen according to the size of your house/apartment.
F2: for an apartment with only one bedroom, we often recommend a truck of about 10 to 12 cubic meters. Always go for at least 12 m3. If you have some substantial furniture, it fills up very quickly. Too fast. So, take into account what you have, and do not hesitate to take a 15 m3 if you feel like you have a lot of stuff.
F3: if your apartment has 50 m2, you can leave on a truck of at least 20 m3. Of course, your car license is enough to drive it. However, if it seems too big and you are not comfortable, you can go on a 12 or 15 m3, but be careful, you will have to do at least one round trip. It's up to you to see, depending on the distance and the travel time, whether it's playable or not.
F3 or +: If you are still planning to drive your commercial vehicle yourself, but your volume is too large for the previous trucks, know that you can go up to a 27 m3 truck with your car license. If they are very easy to drive, do not forget that they take up a lot of space and therefore you will have to park with them. However, it may be faster than making too many round trips.
The little details
Other small details are important to take into account before your rental: how much time do you need? Which mileage to choose?
Estimate your moving time as accurately as possible. Let's assume that your move is 200% accurate so that all your boxes are done, that the furniture that does not fit through your door is dismantled, that everything that moves is taped or fixed, and in short, that there is no just have to load. You can count 2 to 3 hours of loading, depending on the number of arms you have and the volume you have to take. Add to that (always according to your number), an hour of unloading. Plus your commute time, plus an hour beat for breaks/slowdowns/other. Excluding travel time, you can already count 5 hours for a loading-unloading. Always plan. Better to have too much time and return the truck early, than not enough and pay a penalty or worse, have to re-hire a second truck.
Which mileage to choose again depends on your volume. If you are certain that everything will fit in once, you can take the kilometers from the rental agency to your old home + the distance between the place of loading and that of unloading + the return to the agency. If in doubt, always take double.
Here you are, you know more about the choice of the cubic capacity of a commercial vehicle before renting. If you still have doubts, I advise you to go see where you will find software allowing you to estimate the cubage necessary. And you, what is your unmissable moving advice?
