A hard week that's for sure

By Chloe Rose Violet 🌹Published 11 months ago • 3 min read

My day today has been very restful.

After having emergency surgery on Wednesday this week, I have been taking some time for myself. I woke up this morning, in a bit of pain with my youngest child and partner. We all moved down to the couch. I curled up with a cup of coffee and my Kindle Scribe. I eventually fell asleep while my youngest was watching Mickey Mouse (his favorite cartoon) and my partner decided to cover me up with two blankets- one for my body, and one for my feet.

I only slept for a little while but just that actually, of being covered up like a small child made my day. The only other person who's done that for me as an adult was my late grandmother. I wish she was still here. She's the person I wish I could talk to.

My grandpa (her husband) was my lifesaver and I didn't have to stay in the hospital overnight because he drove me there. I really appreciated that act of love. And my partner has just been wonderful with the kids, allowing me to take time for myself during this past week.

I just really appreciate him and how hard he works for our family. This week wasn't easy on him either, but he handled it with ease. I just have realized who shows up for you in times of need and who keeps their distance. It's nothing personal it is just life. But wow this week, what a week from hell. On Thursday we realized that both our vehicles shit the bed too. Mine shouldn't be too hard to fix but I have been off work for a little while after losing the baby and having this emergency surgery. I just haven't been able to provide for our family the way my rock of a partner has been able to. I have never appreciated someone more, for just being them.

With everything in my life going to shit this past week, I decided to spend my day just relaxing and taking care of me. I finished The Comfort Book by Matt Haig on my Kindle Scribe. I am convinced this book found me for a reason at this current point in my life. His essays found me at a hard time in my life and this book completely change my life. 5/5 stars for sure.

The new uplifting book from Matt Haig, the New York Times bestselling author of The Midnight Library, for anyone in search of hope, looking for a path to a more meaningful life, or in need of a little encouragement.

“It is a strange paradox, that many of the clearest, most comforting life lessons are learnt while we are at our lowest. But then we never think about food more than when we are hungry and we never think about life rafts more than when we are thrown overboard.”

The Comfort Book is Haig’s life raft: it’s a collection of notes, lists, and stories written over a span of several years that originally served as gentle reminders to Haig’s future self that things are not always as dark as they may seem. Incorporating a diverse array of sources from across the world, history, science, and his own experiences, Haig offers warmth and reassurance, reminding us to slow down and appreciate the beauty and unpredictability of existence.

Synopsis taken from GoodReads

I'll never stop raving about Matt Haig's work. Reading a book of his, is absolutely life-changing in my mind. And this one found me at the right time in my life. It was good for my soul, being lazy and avoiding the housework and adult responsibilities- even just for the day.
