Not the Mama
I was a stepdaughter twice, courtesy of my father who kept rushing to get married and apparently had a problem with being single and alone for long periods of time. Being a stepdaughter under the third wife was problematic. It was the same with the next stepmother, but eventually, our relationship became better. Dad and my stepmothers have now passed on. From the perspective of a stepchild, I think any woman who plans on marrying a man with kids should consider some things.

Fatherless
"I'm gonna go call my dad, okay?" I chirped happily, hopping down from the sticky kitchen table, picking up a cookie on my way out of the room. I was six years old and had already memorized my father's telephone number and would call him almost every day in a desperate attempt to make him love me.

Dealing with Change
Change can be difficult to deal with no matter what age you are. No one really likes change. We get stuck in our routines. We get stuck in our habits. We basically work hard to get ourselves into a comfortable rut, and then we just stay there.

Meet Me in Guangzhou
My husband and I boarded the 15-hour flight to Guangzhou, China. We had spent the last fourteen months completing all the necessary paperwork, preparing our home, and packing and re-packing our suitcases. Finally, the time had come to meet our ten-month-old daughter for the first time.

My Mother
My mother was a beautiful woman. She was full of life and full of love. Her laughter was contagious. There was no one she couldn't start a conversation with. It didn't matter who you were, she would talk to you. My mother was one of the greatest women I know.

Forever My Little Man
My oldest brother Esteban, "Little Man," isn't just my brother, he is my friend and I will do anything for him. Since the day I was born he has been looking out for my older brother Bernard "Busy Bee" and me. He was always there for us when my parents were at work or busy. We didn't always get along with each other, but when we fought and argued with each other we would apologize and forgive each other because at the end of the day all we had was each other and nothing can or will ever change that.

Curing the Chaos
Considering sickness when you have children, can often create chaos. Especially when their system is already compromised. In our case, it's due to CF. In other cases, it could be anything. As everyone knows, the flu has seemed to create an epidemic. Lives have been lost, mostly in children.

Grandfather’s Hand
The beeps coming from the hospital equipment were the only noises in the pristine room. The smell of antiseptic stung Maggie’s nose. She walked up to her grandfather’s bed. He had tubes coming from his nose, and more sticking out of the veins on his hand. She lightly brushed her slender manicured fingers along his boney swollen hand. He groaned as if to say he felt her touch.

My Childbirth Experience
For me, labour and childbirth wasn't as so straight forward as many other mothers out there. Mine was kind of planned, in the sense of I had a date in which I had to go in and be induced. I was having low movements from the baby so I told the hospital and they told me to come in to monitor him. They did say everything was fine and normal but to be on the safe side that I should be induced. There have been some cases in which this has happened to women, where the baby has moved less in the belly and then suddenly the baby has sadly passed away, so they just wanted to reduce the risk of that.
