Kozhikode’s real estate developers who have violated CRZ rules in for a rude shock.
NGO's taking the fight for justice to those responsible.

Top law firm from New Delhi and a Kerala-based environmental NGO are working together to protect Kozhikode coastline. Real estate developers have been violating rules for mere greed and damaging India’s favorite coastline which is Kerala coastline, Similar fate can be expected of demolition and imprisonment like Supertech twin towers in Noida's and Kochi s Maradu residential tower demolition due to CRZ violation, this saga began 13 years ago and eventually the supreme court decided in favor of the environment. With so many lives lost in Kozhikode during the floods and pandemic, group of NGO s have decided engage all for a mass protest, they have managed to gather evidence of bribery and violation and plan to expose all involved.
Development near the coastal areas could potentially harm the ecosystem and exacerbate flood risks. Coastal areas are particularly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change and sea level rise, and it's important that development is done in a sustainable way that preserves the natural protections these areas provide.
The damage due floods, where more than a million people were displaced, with so many deaths the chaos want ordinary . Property damage was extensive, with thousands of homes and infrastructure such as roads and bridges destroyed. The state government estimated that the cost of the damage exceeded $3 billion. It was considered one of the worst flooding in Kerala after 1924.
Water pollution is also a significant problem in Kerala, with a number of rivers and other bodies of water being contaminated by sewage, industrial waste and unplanned construction . The Periyar and Bharathapuzha rivers are among the most heavily polluted in the state.
In Kerala, CRZ violations have been reported in a number of areas, including the construction of illegal buildings and other structures on the coast, unauthorized land reclamation, and illegal sand mining. These activities have not only damaged the coastal ecosystems but also put the lives of the locals who heavily rely on the coast, to risk.
CRZ violations have been particularly prevalent in the state's urban areas, where rapid development and population growth have put pressure on coastal resources.
NGOs have decided to take stringent measures to address CRZ violations, such as demolishing illegal structures and taking legal action against those found to be in violation of the regulations. With enforcement of the regulations in consistent and efficient manner, which will make it easy to effectively address the problem.
To address this issue, the central government is closely monitoring the situation and issuing new guidelines for CRZ regulations and also strengthening the coastal zone management plans of each states.
With evidence being gathered for all the coast line tall structures which will need an details re audit and all permissions given in the past will be re assessed again with stringent action for even minor variations is what the NGO has assured. If developers think their wrong doings are going to be concealed as a matter of the past they will be in for a shock
The law firm and NGO plans to take several steps to clamp down on developers who are destroying the coastline. One of the most powerful tools they have at their disposal is the legal system. They plan file lawsuits against developers who are breaking the law or violating environmental regulations. They also plan to strengthen existing laws and regulations to better protect coastal areas from development.
Another important step they will be taking is to raise public awareness about the issue. They have planned this with the media to draw attention to the problem and educate people about the importance of protecting the coast. They would be engaging with community members and leaders to build support for their efforts.
Additionally, they are gathering all evidence of even minor violation done in the past as they know they will be able to dig out a lot more. They have requested all to come forward and help to expose the corruption in order to build their case and make a strong argument for environmental conservation.
Overall, the key for these efforts to be successful would be a multi-pronged approach where legal, awareness and technical expertise are combined to build the case against the violators.
