Grandma, Can You Help

Okay, what do you need help with?

"Grandma, Manny, and I were hunting for birds and we got stuck."

Okay, how stuck? "I can't get out and now the car won't start."

Okay, Grandpa, Brandon is stuck in the mud and can't get out!

He is out on Feely Road hunting with Manny. Can we help?

"It's not the way I wanted to start my Saturday morning, but okay."

As he is putting the tow rope and a few tools into my car, I grab

a protein breakfast bar as I had just fixed some breakfast.

I figured I better get ready before his Grandpa changes his mind.

After all, it is right before he starts to lift weights and work out.

He doesn't miss his daily workout for much of anything.

~

Grandson called me back when he remembered we no longer have a

pickup. I told him that we can tow our camper with my car,

and that it has all wheel drive and a gear to drive in the brush.

I knew I would have no trouble pulling him out of the mud. He said,

"But it won't start Grandma, the tailpipe is filling up with muddy water.

I should probably just call a tow truck to pull me out and take

me to the shop." Grandpa said to tell him we are on our way out.

We were maybe 15 minutes from him. As we drove out we talked

about how this is where a pickup would come in handy. He would

never admit this conversation to the Grandson though.

~

Grandson was about 3 or 4 miles off the main road, and he had found the

only water we had seen on the road out here. He stopped by our

house last week with a grouse. He hoped Manny would help him

to get many more. He told me he got a standalone freezer he

was hoping to fill this fall. He has been hunting for years now

so I have no doubt he will fill it as long as the birds cooperate

and he can keep from getting stuck. Grandpa told him when we got there

that the tail pipes are blowing things out, not sucking them in.

It took minutes to get him out of the mud with my vehicle.

After he was out, Grandpa told him to sit there for a few minutes.

~

Not to start it right away. Most of the Grandkids know that Grandpa likes

to tease, and tease he does as we get to Grandson, and after we easily pull

him out with my Chevrolet. He teases, "Those Fords are always getting

stuck. He proceeds to talk about every Ford that he has pulled out

of his parents' and siblings. Then he starts in on other family members

Fords. He ends with how he will never own a Ford, and that once was

enough for him. I told the Grandson that all his brothers will hear about it.

He says a few things back but gives up when his Grandpa out-stories him.

He is happy and smiling, and Manny is so anxious to get back to hunting.

Manny would have gotten away more than once if he weren't on a leash.

~

Authors Note: We talked about the girls. He said his oldest likes the breakfast bars in the morning too, like what I was eating. Then he talked about how his youngest little girl has started to sleep through the night. She is barely a month old. Really good to see him and hear about his girls, and because he works so much, we don't see much of him in the spring, summer, and fall.
