Lately, there have been these "nostalgia-core" or "dream-core" accounts on the popular app Tiktok, and they post videos of picture compilations that show places of odd areas that we might have last seen when we were children. But it does not just show ordinary pictures of places, they are commonly known as Liminal Spaces. When you look at these pictures, they might give you this nostalgic, odd, yet comforting feeling that you have seen that place before whether it was in a dream, or even in your childhood.

The most common pictures involved in these compilations are places of children playing areas in malls, theme parks, stores, and much more. Not only is this Tiktok trend popular for the imagery content, but also the usage of music in the background of these videos. These videos do not just involve any kinds of music, but music that seems perfect to fit in the video. The music that is played in these videos will also make you feel nostalgic and give you the same feeling just like if you view the pictures. The most common songs that are played in the background of these videos are: "Limerence" by Yves Tumor, "Safe, Now" by Harris Cole & Aso, "I'd Rather Sleep" by Kero Kero Bonito, "Still Life" by Sitcom, and "Hey Kids" by Molina.

Images like these give me feelings that I just do not know how to explain. Nostalgia in my opinion is one of the greatest feelings you can ever have. I'm a very nostalgic person myself and I always love to look back and reminisce about my childhood once in a while.

Everyone has Dreams. As we all know, we all see dreams when we are in the state of sleep, and they involve images, emotions and stimulations about places, things, people, and pretty much anything at all. Sometimes Our dreams can be very simple, and sometimes they can be very complex. Of course, not everyone feels the same way about these pictures. Most of these pictures appeal to people who lived in or grew up in the 1990's to early 2000's. But what makes these pictures so oddly satisfying or oddly familiar?

In theory, these pictures could be something we all relate to or are familiar with because when we were children, we could have been to places that look similar to the places in these pictures. We might have seen these places in our dreams because our brain could create dreams about anywhere we might have been in our lives, and could throw in a similar childhood place in the mix of our dreams! Something that is very common about these pictures and locations is the color and patterns involved. Here is an example:

Again, not everyone might feel the same emotions when they see these types of pictures. Perhaps it varies on which country you might live in because there could be different architecture, different ways of living, different childhood nostalgia, etc. In a video made by a Youtuber called Solar Sands, he covered this topic and these types of pictures, and he discovered that even people from different countries and demographics have felt the same emotions about these pictures like Americans do, because these pictures most commonly show places and things in America.

Overall, these Liminal Spaces are up for your own interpretation too. It is very interesting how so many people feel the same emotions about these pictures. Perhaps we do not remember but when we were children did we have crazy dreams about these places too and that's another reason it could be so nostalgic?
