Hi Princess. I really hope you exist. I've been dreaming of having you for a while now.
I've decided—from now until I have you—I'm going to write you chapters. These chapters will be lessons that—when the time comes—will be given to you. I want you to read the real thing. I'm sure when I'm all old and wrinkly, my memory will be too fogged up to give you the full, detailed picture. With these letters though—or chapters—I'm going to write you a lesson as soon as I experience it! This way, I'm sure you won't miss a thing. Of course—by the time I'm your mother—I'll be a lot smarter than I am now. So if I say something to you—in present time—that contradicts what I say in these letters, listen to me! These are just meant to be a front row view. I want to be able to share the important parts of my life with you, my beautiful baby girl.
So—as of now—not much has happened. I'm currently on a gap year that my mom—your grandma—made me take. I'm going to force you to take one too. I graduated in June 2021, it is December 2021 right now. I definitely do not regret this. Like genuinely. It is the best decision I have ever made. I feel so refreshed and relaxed. If all goes well—and this stupid pandemic decides to take a break—I'll be travelling soon. I'm going to be going to Pakistan for the first time in years. I hope that you aren't too white-washed. I'm going to make sure I learn how to cook authentic Pakistani food and how to speak Urdu. Whatever ethnicity you end up being, I owe it to you to teach you about our culture.
Speaking of Pandemic, I hope you never have to go through this shit. I missed 1.5/3 years of high school because of it. I hope you get to have the experience I never did. As I'm writing this, I actually have covid. It's so funny, I've always been so careful. But—of course—the one time I go to the club I get the stupid virus. None of my other friends got it! I'm literally the only one. Thank god I'm vaccinated though, I didn't fall too sick.
Other than that there isn't too much going on. I've been applying for scholarships and other schools. Chances are, I'll land at U of A. That's the school in my home town, Edmonton. I wonder if we still live here? Anyways, I'm still applying to Columbia and Harvard. Your grandma went to Harvard, so did your aunt. They're the coolest. My dream is Columbia but, we'll see where that goes.
You come from a family of very strong women by the way. We're all a bunch of doctors and dentists, talk about smart right? I know you will turn out the same, my smart girl. I wonder what career I will have by the time you read this? I'm stuck between going to dental school or medical school. On one hand, dentistry takes less time and dentists make more money. On top of that, they get more free time which is really important to me. But with medicine—even though it takes longer—I'm actually passionate about it. I would love to be a gynaecologist with my own practice. Uhgg, that is the dream. Anyways, I'll probably write you a letter when I figure that out.
So yeah, here's to Chapter 1: I'm 18! Not much in my life has changed, just like not much in yours will either. You are a POC so, I'm still your boss. Well—whenever I learn something new—I'll be sure to update you.
See you next time princess.
From,
Mama.
