Creative Ways to Preserve and Display Your Kids' Art Without the Clutter

We, as parents, go crazy for our little ones’ paintings – they are a reflection of their little minds at work and a sign that they’re making progress The only problem, however, is that all of this work seems to collect and accumulate – and this is where the clutter sits in. How can we preserve and display our kids’ work without actually accumulating clutter? Here are five ways to do exactly that.

Create a Rotating Art Gallery

Create a dedicated art wall in your home where they can showcase their art. With frames, clips or a wire with clothespins, you could quickly display their latest artworks. In this way, you not only keep them on display but also make it easy for the kids to showcase new pieces consistently. This is a great way to keep the display fresh and for the kids to stay involved, as they can also check out what they worked on a few weeks back.

Make a Photo Book

A photo book is likely the best way to preserve your children’s art in a highly curated, low-clutter, low-space-consuming format. Scan or photograph their artwork, and then use an online software to design and print your own photo book.

Turn Art into Gifts

Do your kids draw a lot? Why not have that art printed and make cool gifts for all your friends and family? Artwork makes great (and super sentimental) gifts, and you can have your kid’s creations printed on a mug, t-shirt, tote bag, puzzle — you name it! Print their art on any customizable item for unique and creative gifts to share and display.

Create a Collage or Quilt

Pick out some of your fave pieces and frame them to make a large collage to hang as a statement piece on their wall at home. Or… make it into a quilt! Get the work printed out as fabric pieces and sew them up into a quilt that will serve as a useful and bittersweet memento.

Art Books or Journals

Bind them into a series of art books or journals, using simple binders or taking your project to a professional binder to keep your artist’s repertoire masterfully organised while also minimising clutter and creating a chronological record of your child’s art-making career.

How can you honour your children’s art without creating an endless trail of ruined paper in your home? There’s no need for a pile of papers on your fridge to remember all that they made – there are so many other ways to showcase and preserve the art without having to give up on the display. Here are few tips to get you started. And let’s keep it that way for many years to come. 1 Try out magnets made from art pieces.2 Create a mobile filled with painted lids.3 Transform painted albums into memory books.4 Make an ornament from your child’s art.5 Got a collection of printed child’s hands or feet? Put them on a chain stitch quilt.6 Friends and family can fill out a journal for your child.7 Create a keepsake box with your kiddo’s handprints.8 Label envelopes with thumbprints.9 Bind art pieces together and display on a magnet board.Yup, we’ve all done this before. But this might be the best to-do list yet.
