Azlan and Irha's Careful Lesson

How a Water Bottle Accident Brought a Family Closer

By Syed Ali ShahPublished 12 months ago 3 min read

It was a regular Saturday morning in London, and Azlan and Irha were having a big fight. Azlan was trying to finish his homework while Irha was watching her favorite cartoon, The Magical Unicorn Adventures.

“I’m watching it first!” Irha shouted, sitting in front of the TV with a pout.

“But I need to finish my homework, Irha! Can’t you wait for five minutes?” Azlan replied, clearly frustrated.

“No! You always say that! I never get to watch what I want!” Irha cried, stomping her foot.

Azlan, feeling irritated, grabbed his water bottle and tossed it up in the air, not thinking about where it would land. Unfortunately, the bottle flew straight toward Grandma, who had just entered the room with a tray of tea.

“Watch out, Grandma!” Azlan shouted, but it was too late. The water bottle hit Grandma right on her knee, and she let out a soft gasp, slowly sitting down on the couch, holding her knee.

“Oh no, Grandma! I’m so sorry!” Azlan said, his voice full of worry.

Irha quickly rushed over. “Grandma, are you okay?”

Grandma smiled weakly, though she was clearly in pain. “It’s alright, children. I’m just a little hurt.”

Mom, who had been in the kitchen, rushed into the room. “What’s going on here? Why is Grandma sitting down like that?” she asked, looking worried.

Azlan quickly explained. “I didn’t mean to, Mom! The water bottle just... flew out of my hand.”

Irha added, “We’re really sorry, Grandma!”

Mom sighed, looking at the two of them. “You both need to take care of Grandma now. She’s hurt, and it’s important that you help her.”

Azlan and Irha both nodded, feeling guilty. They went to the kitchen to get some ice for Grandma’s knee, but they weren’t exactly sure how to do it right. They returned to Grandma with two small ice packs, one in each hand.

“We got ice for you, Grandma,” Azlan said, holding up the first ice pack, which was too small.

Irha handed over the other one, which was already starting to melt. “Here you go, Grandma. We hope it helps!”

Grandma chuckled softly, even though her knee still hurt. “Thank you, my little ones. But you both need to learn how to make the ice packs a little bigger next time. I feel like I’m being treated with doll-sized ice!”

Azlan and Irha giggled, but they were both very sorry. They sat next to Grandma and kept her company, talking softly with her. They helped her sip tea and brought her favorite book to read. They even fluffed her pillow and put it under her leg to make her more comfortable.

“Are you feeling a little better now, Grandma?” Irha asked, looking up at her with a concerned face.

Grandma smiled at her. “Yes, dear. You two are taking such good care of me. I’m lucky to have you both.”

Azlan smiled too. “We promise we’ll be more careful from now on, Grandma. No more throwing water bottles.”

Grandma laughed gently. “I know you didn’t mean to hurt me. But just remember, accidents happen. What matters is how we take care of each other afterward.”

Irha nodded. “We’ll make sure to be extra nice from now on, Grandma. We love you.”

Azlan, feeling a little better, put his arm around Grandma. “We’ll always take care of you.”

And from that day on, whenever Azlan and Irha would argue or get upset, they would remember the lesson Grandma taught them: taking care of each other is more important than anything else.

As Grandma rested, feeling the warmth of her grandchildren’s love and care, she knew that they would always be there for her, no matter what.
