Once upon a time, there was a girl named Lily who had a good friend named Emily. They met in middle school and quickly became inseparable. They did everything together, from going to the mall to studying for tests. Emily was always there for Lily, no matter what.

One day, Lily was feeling really down. She had just broken up with her boyfriend and was feeling really lonely. She called Emily and asked if she could come over. Emily didn't hesitate for a moment and told her to come right over.

When Lily arrived, Emily had made her favorite meal and had even picked up a movie that she knew Lily would love. They sat down to eat and talked about everything that was going on in their lives. Emily listened intently and gave Lily some great advice.

After dinner, they snuggled up on the couch and watched the movie. Lily felt so much better with Emily by her side. As they were watching the movie, Emily turned to Lily and said, "You know, I'm so grateful to have you as my best friend. You're always there for me, and I want you to know that I'm here for you too. You're not alone."

Lily felt tears in her eyes and hugged Emily tightly. "Thank you for being such a good friend," she said.

And that was the thing about Emily – she always knew just what to say to make her friends feel better. She was a true best friend, always there to lend an ear or offer a shoulder to cry on. She lived by the motto, "A true friend is someone who reaches for your hand, but touches your heart."

Emily knew that being a good friend meant more than just hanging out and having fun. It meant being there for your friend through the good times and the bad. She always tried to be supportive and understanding, and never judged her friends for their mistakes or flaws. Emily believed in the power of forgiveness and always tried to see the best in people.

As Lily and Emily sat on the couch, Lily thought about all the ways Emily had been a good friend to her over the years. She remembered the time Emily had stayed up all night helping her finish a school project, or the time Emily had driven her to the hospital when she broke her arm. Emily had always been there for her, no matter what.

Lily knew that true best friends were hard to come by, and she felt lucky to have Emily in her life. She remembered a quote she had read online, "A good friend is like a four-leaf clover: hard to find and lucky to have." That was exactly how she felt about Emily.

As the night wore on, Lily felt herself relaxing and letting go of all the stress she had been feeling. She knew that no matter what happened, she had a good friend in Emily who would always be there for her.

Before Lily left, she turned to Emily and said, "Thank you for everything. You're the best friend anyone could ask for." Emily smiled and hugged her tightly. "Anytime," she said. "That's what good friends are for."

As Lily walked home that night, she felt grateful for Emily and all the ways she had been a good friend to her. She knew that true friendship was a rare and precious thing, and she felt lucky to have found it with Emily. She thought about all the ways she could be a better friend too and remembered a list of "ways to be a good friend" she had seen online. She made a mental note to try to be more supportive and understanding in the future.

In the end, Lily realized that good friends are the ones who stick by your side no matter what. They lift you up when you're feeling down, and they celebrate with you when you're feeling happy. Lily knew that Emily was one of those good friends, and she promised herself that she would always be there for Emily too.

Over the years, their friendship grew even stronger. They graduated high school together and went to the same college. Even though they were miles apart, they stayed in touch and talked on the phone almost every day. They shared their dreams and fears, their successes and failures, and everything in between.

As they got older, they started families of their own. Lily had two children, and Emily had one. They loved sharing stories about their kids and watching them grow up. Lily always made sure to tell her children about Emily and what a good friend she was.

One day, Lily got a call from Emily's husband. He told her that Emily had been diagnosed with cancer and that it was terminal. Lily was devastated. She couldn't imagine life without Emily. She dropped everything and flew to Emily's side.

When she arrived, Emily was in the hospital. She was weak and tired, but she managed a smile when she saw Lily. "I'm so glad you're here," she said. "You're a true friend."

Lily spent the next few weeks by Emily's side. She helped take care of her and tried to keep her spirits up. Even though Emily was dying, she still managed to be a good friend to Lily. She listened to her worries and gave her advice. She even planned her own funeral and made sure that Lily knew what to do after she was gone.

When Emily finally passed away, Lily was heartbroken. She had lost her best friend, but she knew that Emily would want her to keep going. She remembered a quote she had read on a website called Goodreads, "The only way to have a good friend is to be one." She realized that if she wanted to honor Emily's memory, she needed to be a good friend to others too.

In the years that followed, Lily tried to live up to Emily's example. She reached out to old friends and made new ones. She listened to their problems and tried to be supportive. She even started volunteering at a local hospital, just like Emily had done.

As time went on, Lily realized that Emily had left her a wonderful legacy. She had shown her what it meant to be a good friend, and she had inspired her to do the same for others. She was grateful for every moment they had spent together, and she knew that Emily would always be with her in spirit.

In the end, Lily learned that a good friend is more than just someone who makes you laugh or shares your interests. A good friend is someone who sticks by your side through thick and thin. Someone who listens when you need to talk, and who supports you when you need it most. Emily had been that kind of friend, and Lily knew that she would always be grateful for that.

As she looked back on their friendship, she realized that it had been one of the greatest gifts of her life. And she knew that whenever she thought of Emily, she would always remember her as a good friend, a true best friend, who had shown her the many ways to be a good friend too.
