A LETTER OF LOVE

A love that could not be forgotten

By Henry LucyPublished 11 months ago 3 min read
True love never dies

There was a town where the echoes of love stories whispered through the cobbled streets, Amelia sat by her window, staring at a blank piece of parchment. The candle beside her flickered, casting long shadows against the walls. Tonight was the night she would write the letter that had remained unspoken in her heart for years.

She dipped her quill into the inkwell, hesitating as memories flooded her mind. The laughter shared under golden sunsets, the stolen glances across crowded rooms and the promises made beneath the old oak tree each moment was sinked into her soul like poetry left unfinished. And yet, time had stretched the distance between them, leaving only the ache of what once was.

Dearest Nathan,

I finally took courage to write to you after so long, yet my heart tells me this letter has always been waiting to be written. I wonder if you still think of me the way I think of you. If the stars still remind you of the nights we spent dreaming beneath them. If your heart ever aches with the same longing that lingers in mine.
She paused, pressing the quill to her lips. How could she put years of unsaid words into a single letter? She took a deep breath, allowing her heart to guide her hand once more.

Do you remember the summer we spent by the lake? You always teased me for bringing a book when all you wanted to do was swim. But you never minded when I read to you beneath the willow tree. I still hear your voice, laughing, carefree as if the world existed only for us.

Life took us in different directions, as life often does. And though I have walked many roads since then, none have ever led me away from you. I have searched for pieces of you in every sunset, in every song, in every quiet moment when the world slows down and I am left with nothing but memories and longing.

Tears welled in her eyes, smudging the ink as she brushed them away. She had carried this love, this unspoken devotion, for far too long. Tonight, it would find its home in the words she had never dared to say.

I do not write this letter in hope of rewriting the past, nor in expectation of a reply. I write because love, in its truest form, deserves to be spoken. You were my first love Nathan, and perhaps, in some quiet hidden way, you will always be. If these words reach you, know that they come from the deepest part of my heart.

With all the love I have ever known,
Amelia

She folded the letter carefully, sealing it with a drop of wax. Her hands trembled as she held it close to her chest, as if she could pour every ounce of love she had left into the parchment.

The next morning, Amelia walked to the post office, the letter clutched in her hands. She hesitated before slipping it into the mailbox, her heart pounding with uncertainty. As the envelope disappeared, she felt lighter, as if she had finally set something free.
Days turned to weeks and Amelia found herself watching the horizon, wondering if her words had reached Nathan. Then, one afternoon, a letter arrived with a familiar handwriting, a name she had not seen in years.

Dearest Amelia,

Your letter found me when I needed it most. I have read it countless times, tracing each word as if it were a map leading me back to you. I have searched for you in the same way you searched for me, in every quiet moment, in every gentle breeze that carries whispers of the past.

I remember the summer by the lake. I remember every moment with you. And I remember the love we shared, a love that never truly faded, only grew quieter with time.

I do not know what fate has planned for us, but I do know that I would give anything to see you again. To hear your voice, to hold your hand, to know that love, even after all these years, still has a place in our hearts ,If you feel the same, meet me beneath the old oak tree at sunset. I will be waiting.

With all that I am,
Nathan

Amelia pressed the letter to her lips, her heart racing. She had spent years wondering if love could withstand time, if it could remain even when everything else had changed. And now, she had her answer.

That evening, as the sun dipped below the horizon, Amelia walked towards the oak tree where a figure stood, waiting. Nathan turned, his eyes meeting hers, filled with the same love that had never truly left them,And in that moment, as they embraced beneath the fading light, Amelia knew their love story was not over. It had merely been waiting for its next chapter to begin.
