A Girl with a Hard Life – Part One
It all began in the summer of 2008. A little girl was born—but she wasn’t just any girl. She was the most beautiful baby in England, just as stunning as her mother, Anna. Anna herself was a miracle: tall, slender, with golden brown hair and mesmerizing sea-green eyes. When she gave birth to her daughter, Katie, even the hospital staff couldn’t stop admiring her. Katie looked just like her mother—perhaps even more beautiful.
Katie’s father, Joe, was also known for being the most handsome man around.
Everything seemed perfect. A few days after the birth, they were released from the hospital. On the way home, baby Katie began to cry. Anna comforted her gently, saying it was nothing to worry about. But then, in the blink of an eye, a car came speeding from the opposite direction and crashed into theirs.
Anna was thrown from the vehicle. She died instantly.
Joe and baby Katie were rushed to the hospital. The doctors managed to save them, but when Joe woke up, he immediately asked about his wife.
Joe: How’s my wife? When can I see her?
Doctor: I’m very sorry… your wife didn’t survive. She died at the scene.
Joe: No… no, that’s not possible. She was the most wonderful person in the world.
Doctor: I’m truly sorry. But the good news is, your daughter is doing well. She’ll be able to go home in a few days.
Joe: I NEVER want to see that child again. I want nothing to do with her. Nothing at all.
Doctor: Sir, I know this is hard to hear, but the baby is now alone. She needs someone.
Joe: I don’t care. She’ll grow up without me. Just bring the papers. I’m done.
And so the doctor brought the documents. But Joe couldn’t even hold a pen. In the end, it was Rosa—Anna’s aunt—who took Katie home. She raised her as her own, giving her all the love she had.
When Joe was discharged, he still insisted on giving Katie up for adoption. He was about to leave when Rosa caught up with him.
Rosa: Joe, wait!
Joe: What do you want, Rosa?
Rosa: Please, don’t send little Katie to an orphanage…
Joe: I don’t care. Katie isn’t my child anymore. I hate her. She took my wife from me.
Rosa: She’s just a baby, Joe. She didn’t do anything wrong.
Joe: I. Don’t. Care!
Rosa: Don’t you think Anna would be heartbroken, watching this from above? Are you really going to abandon your own child?
Joe: Yes.
Rosa: Then let me raise her. I don’t have kids. I probably never will. Please… at least this way, she won’t grow up alone. You can still visit her.
Joe: You’re poor, Rosa. You won’t be able to raise a child.
Rosa: I’ll figure it out.
Joe: No, you won’t. — he said coldly, and walked away.
Rosa stood there in tears, brokenhearted. She didn’t know how, but she swore she would raise Katie, no matter what.
One night, she made a decision. She packed her things and left with Katie in her arms. Together, they stepped into the unknown world, hoping for a better life.
