A Dinner to Remember

A Story of Love and Loss

By Alpha pubPublished 3 years ago 2 min read

My wife requested that I go out with another woman for dinner and a movie after many years of living together. Even though my wife claims to love me, she is aware that another lady also feels the same way about me, wants to go out with me, and will find this company to be enjoyable. My mother, who had recently lost her husband, was another woman my wife urged me to spend time with. However, due to the demands of my three small children, my job, and life’s other challenges, I could only see my mother once or twice a month. For a little while, I’ll see him.

I contacted her that evening to invite her to a movie and dinner. “What happened?”, asked my anxious mother.

She was one of those people who became concerned when they received an untimely call or an unexpected invitation. We haven’t been alone in a while, so I told her nothing bad had happened and I simply wanted to spend the night with her.

She gladly took me up on my offer. I was a little apprehensive and uncomfortable as I was going after her that day after I was done. She was a little anxious when I got there, too. She put on her own clothing and wore minimal makeup. She was smiling, and in my opinion, she is more gorgeous than ever. She eagerly announced to all of her friends that she would be going out with his son today as she was getting into my car, and they too were extremely thrilled. Together, we headed to a quaint, quiet restaurant. The entire time, she had her hand in mine. As I began to read the restaurant’s menu, I saw that she was giving me a really kind and caring look. She said that when I was a little child and we went out to eat, she was the one who perused the menu and made the meal selections for me. I informed her that now it was my chance to make up for those days by picking out food for her.

While we were eating, we discussed everything. We forgot that we were meant to go to the movie theater since our talk was so cozy and enjoyable. She stated he would want to go out with me again, provided that I would be his guest this time, when I dropped her off in front of his house. I happily agreed. My wife asked about having dinner with my mum when I got home. I added that it was a lot more entertaining than I had anticipated. A few days later, my mother had a major heart attack and died, leaving me without her. “I don’t know whether I will be there or not, but I have paid for the table for two people, one for you and one for your wife, in the restaurant where we had dinner with my mother.” A copy of the receipt was sent with the message. “You’ll never understand how much that evening meant. I love you.”

It was then that I understood how crucial it is to express our love and make time for our loved ones. Nothing is more significant in life than receiving and giving love. You never know how much time you will have, so give your loved ones the time they deserve.
