A day to remember

How Agatha became a mom

By Kris RosePublished 4 years ago 3 min read
Proud momma!

It was September 15th, 2017. We were expecting my little princess, Agatha, to give birth any day now. It was her first litter and she was as exited as us. It was a long 2 months for her. Pregnancy was hard on Agatha's body, her skin was patchy, belly about to pop and she was pretty tired. I will never forget the moment I saw the little babies on the ultrasound. The night came and today there were no puppies...

...came September 16th. I woke up early by the sound of Agatha crying. I think it was 6 or 7 a.m. I stumbled out of bed, half asleep, and went to the other room where she was. She looked at me and I saw the small relieve in her eyes because I was there, she felt safe. I sit on the floor and tried to calm her down but she kept walking nervously back and forth, back and forth around the room. I started getting concerned, may be something was wrong and she was trying to tell me...I called her to come to me and she hesitantly came. She sit in my lap and I hugged her, at this moment I felt she was feeling more relaxed. Her belly was moving...may be the puppies were finally coming?! About an hour passed of her now walking in circles, until she came back to me, made a circle between my legs and sit in my lap. I kept petting her and telling her it will all be ok! She lift her bottom a little and licked my face, in this moment I saw something coming out of her...it was the first puppy! He was stuck, good that I read some articles ahead of time, I grabbed the embryo sack and pulled gently up and out and he was out! I ripped the sack open and got him out, he barely made a noise to show he's alive, while she was eating the embryo sack, as gross as it sounds now, at the moment it felt so magical! She started licking and cleaning him, and he was so small! We had our first puppy! I named him Buddy. Buddy was the first puppy for a couple hours. Then we had almost back to back Little Agatha (a copy of her mom) and Little Austin (named after my friend who got him, now his name is Carl). Then we had Little Fatso(the chubbiest puppy ever!), Erika, Mini V (a copy of her dad), Sigrid (currently named Yoko), Bjorn (he stayed with mom) and one more. The last one does not have a name, she is baby Doe, she made it only 24h. When I went to check on Agatha, I saw that she was still trying to keep her little body warm. We tried CPR for about 20 minutes, but it was too late, she was gone. We let Agatha say her goodbyes and put the little baby to rest in the back yard. At the end we had 8 healthy puppies. Agatha was so tired, but also so proud of her litter.

Puppy #9 was born at 7 p.m.! She was and still is an amazing mother. Her little heart is full of so much love to give to the world! I feel like I didn't know what love was until Agatha came into my life! She's always there for me in the hardest times of my life. She helps me with my extreme anxiety. She's always happy to see me and give me a kiss! With her in my life I believe in a better tomorrow!

This was one of the most emotional days in my life and I am so grateful that Agatha let me be a part of it! A day I will always remember!
