Writing in the future on the new world

Writers in the new world

Will writing continue to be significant in the creative landscape of the futur

Writing, in addition to speaking, is the foundation of our communication.

We used to have to physically write to finish our schoolwork back in the day. We'd send postcards to our friends and relatives. We'd make a shopping list and keep it in our shopping cart.

We now communicate via social media and WhatsApp.

In a nutshell, writing is what we've always known and what we've grown up with. However, it is rapidly evolving.

The Changing Creative (and Digital) Environment of Today

We hop from Facebook to Twitter to Instagram to Snapchat these days. Each platform has its unique content style, which chages on a weekly basis. Short-form video is sometimes used. It's occasionally a thirty-minute vlog.

At the moment, the emphasis is entirely on the visual.

A photo (or video) is far easier to consume than a 1,000-word blog post.

As a result, businesses are pouring millions of dollars on video measurements, data analysis, and six-second cut-downs, all in the hopes of snagging a sliver of the digital content pie. And with good reason: the numbers speak for themselves.

However, businesses are concerned. With the advent of low-cost, easy-to-use technology now available to the general public, the barriers to entry into the video industry are reducing.

Writing's function has shifted. Netflix is one of our favorite things in the world. We read less books because we have more options — not because we value 'written' less, but because we're inundated with information. We want to figure out how to make the most of the time we have. But don't forget that Netflix shows begin with a screenplay. As a result, writing remains crucial.

We still read, but we also consume a lot of other forms of information. We read blogs, newspaper articles, and digital publications on the internet. We read the subtitles beneath the videos. We like to read memes. Not books, but content that is nonetheless fueled by words. So, writing is still important.

We like to read memes. Not books, but content that is nonetheless fueled by words. So, writing is still important.

(I also believe writing is still important because I recently visited a crowded bookstore.) Hundreds of people looking for Christmas gifts).

Our creative environment will continue to evolve. Communication will never be the same as it once was. We do, however, adapt. We adapted to the typewriter in the 1880s, and in the 2010s, we'll adapt to video. Although the shift is more difficult, the printed word continues to live beneath its surface.

Why?

But let’s forget about practicality for a second. Writing is equally as important from an emotional standpoint.

There are certain messages that can only be expressed through writing. Wit, humour, sarcasm. Sadness, heartbreak, loss. Nuances possible to communicate through video, but so much better through writing. A subjective statement, of course.

For me, writing is a powerful medium that inspires and sparks creativity. Moonpig transformed the Greetings Card industry, but it never truly replaced the Greetings Card. Although card retailers are in decline, Christmas, Valentines and Birthday cards live on because there’s nothing quite like a few handwritten words on a personally-chosen card.

When most people think of writers, they imagine odd work habits and sparks of insight that involve them snapping their fingers, running upstairs, ripping open their notebooks and jotting down beautiful, fully-formed prose. This, of course, is nonsense.

Most writers, at least the most successful ones, are on fairly normal work schedules that they build for themselves because writing, like all art, is self-motivated and self-driven.

The Internet is a source of information and entertainment, and while much of that is offered visually, such as through video, the written word still the dominant method for delivering online content. As a result, there is a large demand .
