Another tell-tale sign is when unknown contacts are added to your list, which may occur when signing in on a new device. In such cases, it is possible that your account has been hacked. You can also review your sent messages for any messages that you did not send, which could indicate a security breach in your Whatsapp account.

REAL WORLD CASE STUDY ON WHATSAPP SOCIAL ENGINEERING ATTACK.

Current trends of Social Engineering has given rise whatsapp hacking on daily bases

My own friend WhatsApp was Hacked recently.

My investigations reveals that she was hacked through Social Engineering techniques.

METHOD USED BY THE ATTACKER.

The Victim was a Student. The attacker called her and introduced himself as one of their SRC executive and said they are adding the students to new SCR group and as member of the SRC group he has been tasked to add the students to the group.

1. He told her that she will soon get a message on her phone from WhatsApp so should forward him the numbers in the message, that is the Whatsapp Code.

2. At that time he has already installed WhatsApp on his phone. so he now entered her number to configure the new WhatsApp on his phone and WhatsApp sent the Secret WhatsApp Code to her phone.

3. She sent him the Secret WhatsApp Code and that ends it. He was completely able to compromise her WhatsApp Account.

HOW WE RECOVERD THE HACKED WHATS APP ACCOUNT.

4. We delated the old WhatsApp and reinstall new WhatsApp on her phone and WhatsApp asked us to Waite for Six (6) hours before they can send the new code.

after 6 hours the code come and the WhatsApp was restored.

REASONS AND MALICIOUS ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATED WITH THIS KIND OF ATTACK.

The main reason behind this attack was that, the attacker wants the contacts of the victim to see him as a legitimate person, so that whatever he will sent to the contacts, they will believe that its coming from the owner of that number (the Victim).

The attacker kept sending Malicious messages to her contacts. Saying that he works with WORLD REMIT, that if you send him

Ghc100 he will send you Ghc1000

Ghc1000 and he will send you Ghc10,000

Unfortunately, one of her contacts fall victim of this attack by sending this guy ghc1000 waiting for ghc10,000 and that ends it.

his phone went off after sending him the money.

Someone has lost Ghc1000 as a result of this attack.

HOW TO DETECT IF ANY OF YOUR WHATSAPP CONTACT HAS CHANGED HIS OR HER NUMBER.

WhatsApp will tell you that contact has changed his or her number as you open the WhatsApp page of that contact, you can call the new number to be sure if its legitimate.
