What is the purpose of education?

The opinion on purpose of education varies from one person to another. Parents, learners, administrators have different perceptions about the role of education. Despite the variations, the importance of education in all aspects of life is inevitable.

The government should channel more resources to the education sector. This can help people afford education and get quality knowledge and skills.

People need knowledge to read, write and to do arithmetic. Essay writing skills are important to present broad knowledge in the written form. The purpose of education includes;

1. Impart skills and knowledge

The main purpose of education is to impart the learner with skills and knowledge. They are important for human survival and promote human existence.

The skills and knowledge are learnt in different levels of education ranging from basic, secondary and tertiary level. Each level should be followed to completion in order to obtain standard quality skills and knowledge.

2. Career development

Quality careers are based on levels of education one obtains. Education plays a major role in career development by enhancing self-discovery. Teachers should work closely with learners to help them identify their potentials, capabilities, and talents and nurture them.

A person knows what they want to be in future in their early levels of education. Education enables discovery of career potentials at secondary level and promote skills development for the career at tertiary level.

3. Promote discipline

Through education, learners learn to differentiate between right and wrong. They are corrected from mistakes and acknowledged for doing right. This creates discipline.

Discipline enables the learners to co-exist with each other. They are also able to exist with rules and regulations in the society to promote an easy to work with disciplined society.

4. Enlightenment

It is through education that ignorance is killed. Retrogressive cultural practices can cease to exist if the society is educated. The practices include; early marriages, Female Genital Mutilation, wife inheritance, and other bad practices in some societies.

Education enlightens people on importance of observing laws and regulations and prevent ignorance. An enlightened society experience fast growth and development.

5. Promotes healthy living

An educated society is a healthy society. They understand and observe the health basics including sanitation, diet, and mental health management practices. Observing these basics help prevent and manage obesity, malnutrition, prevent mental diseases etc.

Education bears medical workers to provide medical services in the society. An educated society enjoys healthy lives.

6. Academic achievement

People need to know how to read, write and solve arithmetic. The purpose of education is to ensure the learners become academic achievers.

Through education, the learner knows how to make use of reading materials to study and revise for exams. They also learn how to use technology like electronic gadgets, PC,laptops, phones, and tablets to access assignment help websites. They therefore become academic achievers without much constraint.

7. Promotes social cohesion

Learning environment is a social setting consisting of teachers, learners, and other staffs. These people come from different backgrounds, nationalities, communities, tribes, races, and political zones. Education enables people to co-exist as a community with a common goal.

Educated people appreciate diversity. They learn with and from each other by exchanging ideas and cultures. This social cohesion promotes peace and social development in the society.

8. Boost self-esteem

The purpose of education in individual development can be seen in how much one values and loves themselves. You are proud of yourself when you understand life and can help others cope. Education exposes you to realities of life, promotes greater visions.

You find pride in ability to define yourself and identify with your level of education. A less educated person finds it difficult to present themselves and their ideas effectively. This leads to low self-esteem.

9. Boost confidence

Imagine going to seek a job with clean papers that depicts you are highly qualified. You can confidently face the panel during an interview and present yourself as a qualified candidate. Your convincing power is strong to get any turn-down.

You confidently present and say what you know. An educated person is confident and this result to audibility, fluency, organized thoughts, and maintains eye contacts with audience.

10. Enhances good citizenship

A nation consisting of educated people runs smoothly. Such citizens understand and observe the law. They are patriotic to their nation. They strive to serve the nation and respect their leaders.

Educated citizens have value for peace and justice. They understand their rights and observe rights of others to co-exist without oppression.

The purpose of education in all sectors of life start from individual benefit and spread outwards benefit the entire society. Life runs smoothly for educated people. Opportunities always knock on the doors of educated persons. They are also highly likely to create more opportunities to benefit the society.
