Three Reasons Why High School Sucked for You
Article about the struggles of balancing all aspect of your high school life.
Many people say high school was the best time of their lives but in reality high school sucked. High school felt like a place where you weren’t meant to succeed, there was no way to properly balance the three parts of your life, being a student athlete was a scam, and you weren’t informed about your future after senior year. So in this article you will be given three different reasons why high school sucked for you.
Reason One: Impossible to Balance Social Life, School Work, and Sleep. You are only given so many hours in a day and you are expected to do so much. You are in school for eight hours and in the best case scenario you are getting eight hours of sleep, so those last eight hours should be for yourself but more often than not they are not for you. Many studies say that students are getting between an hour to three hours of homework each night, but if you have a test the next day then that is probably another hour to make sure you are prepared. This also doesn’t even consider AP or Honors classes where many teachers say they need to do an hour of homework each night. Everyday you also have to do basic things like eating, taking a shower, talking to your family, doing chores. So, now you are left with one to two hours for yourself which you might use to spend time at social events or with friends, but most teens are so tired from the busy day that they spend it scrolling on their phone or resting in some other way. This means that no matter how much you try to be a good friend, a good student, a good child to your parents, and be good to your own body you will never be able to balance it all.
Reason Two: Being a Student Athlete is a Scam. From reason one we know that after all your school work and other activities you barely have any time for yourself, so being a student athlete is impossible to manage. Most school sports have at least two hours for practice and for game days many students come home late at night or early in the morning and they are still expected to go to school the next day. So if you are a student athlete then you are probably either sacrificing sleep or time spent on homework which is a lose-lose situation because no matter what you will not be able to function properly the next day at school. Also, many coaches say that you are a student before you are an athlete but you need to be at every practice and every game if you want to have a spot on the team or play a decent amount of time. So no matter what, being a student athlete is a scam because it is just not possible to be both a student and an athlete.
Reason Three: You Are Not Prepared for The Future. Many high schoolers have no idea what they want to do after school. This in part can be blamed on the idea that they aren’t given any information until Junior or Senior year which is too late for many students who need to think about potential colleges, majors, and jobs. Also many counselors have too many students they are in charge which means they can’t individually help and talk to each student about their future plans. So students are left to suffer the consequences of starting life at college with no information and no idea what they want to do with their life.
In total, you weren’t meant to succeed in high school which later set you up for failure in post high school life. So fixing later life problems starts with fixing problems in high school life.
