Sending a thank you note is a quick and relatively painless way to stand out from the crowd. A recruitment website once surveyed: What do interviewers think of candidates who do not send thank you letters?

01. Send a thank you letter by email.

Traditionally handwritten thank you note takes at least a day to deliver and may sit in the mailroom or on someone's desk for days before being read. One major benefit of Thank You Letter Writing over email is that they can be sent and received quickly. Thank you notes sent via email are acceptable to most interviewers today. However, if it's a very "old school" company or interviewer, consider sending a formal thank you note by letter, with a stamp for postage for the response. However, this situation should be an extremely rare minority, so today, we mainly talk about thank-you letters sent by email. Remember that the interviewer will use your thank you letter as a " work sample " to predict what kind of employee you will be. So focus on sending the most professional thank you message possible, with good spelling, grammar, and use of technology.

Don't send the same thank you note to every interviewer! Emails are easy to share. Change some details slightly, or add some custom content (between the main text's first and second paragraphs).

Refer to things you said that seemed important to the interviewer, e.g., As we discussed, I find the technologies associated with using cloud computing fascinating and a great opportunity for the future, but security is also a major question. Keeping your company's information secure will be a top priority in this job, and I want to dig into protection techniques and threats to avoid future problems.

If possible, refer to any "connections" you may have made, e.g., I'm glad you also attended XX school and played for the school track team. I hope they make the Varsity finals next year!

Keep in touch after thanks

Hopefully you've received an email from the person who responded and acknowledged the response but doesn't panic if you don't hear back by the deadline; there could be a lot going on that has nothing to do with you. Absolute Must-Ask Questions for Your Next Interview to get the details you need on their hiring process, so you have contacts and their guidance.

TIPS

If they say they'll get in touch with you within a week; if they don't, then for the next five business days, don't press them. If you forget to ask when they'll be in touch after your interview, five business days is enough to show you're interested in the job without being intrusive. Don't contact them every day, or every week, asking for results. This interview may or may not get you an offer. Don't "pause" your job search until your results are in; keep searching. At best, you can choose between two (or more) jobs; at worst, you don't lose any opportunities.

Your thank you note may be trivial, but it's a great way to stand out from the crowd of candidates. Take some time to follow Jobpai FutureTour to learn how to write a thank you letter and send it to the interviewer quickly.

A good thank you letter reflects your high-quality work and some characteristics you may mention about yourself, such as attention to detail, communication skills, technical proficiency, and knowledge about the job and the target business.
