Not every lighthouse tells a peaceful story. Some have dark pasts and secrets that never fade. One such place is known as The Devil’s Sorrow—a name whispered with fear and mystery among sailors and lighthouse keepers. This is the tragic story of two brothers, Shawn and Edward, whose loyalty and love for each other led them to a place they would never leave.

A New Beginning

After losing their parents to illness, Shawn and Edward made a promise—they would always stay together. So when Edward decided to take a job as a lighthouse keeper in the 1890s, Shawn followed without question. Edward had always liked a challenge, and running a lighthouse wasn’t an easy task. Still, he saw it as important work—helping ships stay safe at sea.

Shawn wasn’t thrilled about the lighthouse’s strange name, The Devil’s Sorrow, and he had good reason. The place gave off an eerie feeling. When he asked their boss, Mr. Rogers, why it was called that, the old man simply grunted and told him to get back to work. It wasn’t the answer Shawn wanted, but he knew better than to push it.

Hard Work and Odd Signs

Life at the lighthouse was tough. Shawn and Edward worked long hours cleaning, painting, and keeping track of supplies. Mr. Rogers didn’t offer help—he just handled the main task of keeping the light on. While he didn’t say much, he made sure the brothers were paid well, which helped them stay motivated.

One morning at breakfast, Shawn brought up something odd. Other workers didn’t like being assigned to The Devil’s Sorrow. Edward was surprised. He hadn’t heard anything about that. He also revealed something strange—Mr. Rogers wouldn’t let him near the old shack he lived in next to the lighthouse.

Shawn found it suspicious, but like before, he didn’t question it much. Life was hard, and they needed the job.

The First Scare

One evening, as the brothers pushed a cart of coal, Shawn noticed something strange. Mr. Rogers was outside his shack, pacing nervously. His hands were black—covered in something that looked like dirt or maybe ash. Before Shawn could say anything, Edward nudged him and told him to focus on work.

Later that night, while Edward cooked their usual stew, Shawn glanced at the shack and noticed a light on. Mr. Rogers was still awake. Everything seemed normal, until much later that night.

A Nightmare Unfolds

Shawn woke up needing to use the restroom. Not wanting to disturb Edward, he stepped outside. As he looked toward the shack, he saw a tall black figure standing in front of it. It had long horn-like shapes sticking out of its head. Terrified, Shawn screamed and fell backward.

Edward ran out, confused. Shawn pointed toward the shack, unable to speak. Edward asked if something had happened to Mr. Rogers, then ran off to check.

He never came back.

Shawn, scared but worried for his brother, forced himself to follow. What he found inside the shack made his heart stop.

The Truth Revealed

Mr. Rogers was dead. His throat had been cut, and his body lay on top of a strange symbol carved into the wooden floor. His chest and neck were scratched, and his hands were still black.

In front of the body stood Edward. His back was turned. As Shawn stepped closer, he noticed something chilling—Edward’s shadow didn’t look normal. It looked just like the tall, horned figure he had seen earlier.

When Edward turned around, Shawn felt something stab through his neck. He collapsed, bleeding. The last thing he saw was Edward lifting a knife and cutting his own throat.

The Mystery Lives On

Weeks later, their bodies were found. The official report blamed pirates, though no real proof was found. What couldn’t be explained was how the lighthouse remained lit the entire time—even though both keepers were dead.

To this day, sailors avoid the island. Those who pass by say they see the light glowing in the dark, even though no one lives there.

The story's got me intrigued. I've seen some spooky lighthouses, but this one with its secrets sounds really creepy.
