Teachers in 2022
Helping children for our future
Teachers nowadays are so undervalued and there are currently multiple bills throughout the states that are trying to get passed that are pretty much giving parents complete control over the curriculum and even taking teachers jobs. Home schooling has always been an option and as long as the students knew the basics to pass a GED test, the parents could teach what they please. They are fighting to remove the standards that the state creates which has already been lowered with the "no child left behind" stuff.
Even through all of this, I have been working towards my bachelors degree in elementary education, with graduation planned by the end of this year. I fully plan to fight back with these bills for the good of our children. If we leave everything in the hands of the parents, many children are going to suffer for it. Many psychological issues are found and helped with the support of teachers. Teachers are also professionally trained to help children learn the basic skills needed to move throughout their life.
In the ideal world, all of our children would grow up to be geniuses, but sadly the world's standards have been dropping. I will be doing everything I can in the upcoming years to raise the standards we hold for our children and give them a better world than we grew up in. I plan to have a classroom that is designed to use each child's skills to their benefit. There is always more than one way to solve a problem. I want all of my students to learn this and always think of a solution that can be done in their own unique way.
Recently, children's creativity is being deemed unimportant and dangerous. Their creative outlets are being taken from them. I want to give them back. Children can think for themselves and most of them are pretty dang smart if given the right opportunities to show it. Our children deserve a better future than we are currently prepared to give them. They are no longer learning the basic life skills needed to survive and are being babied by the communities around them.
I plan to integrate these basic life skills into my lessons so that they may take away more from my teaching than I was able to in school. I feel like I learned plenty of useless knowledge when I should have been learning how to survive. Students should be able to learn how to build things from scratch, cook, grow plants, and so much more! I'm still learning some of these basic life skills when I should have known them before needing to take care of myself.
I will use my past experiences to guide the children I get the opportunity to teach and try to change their life for the better. I have always wanted to become a teacher, but I could never put my finger on why I wanted to be one so badly. The more I move through life, the more I'm realizing the why. These children deserve so much more than we've been giving them. I want to give the children a reason to remember what they learned at school and not feel like they just wasted so many years of their life learning useless knowledge that they will just forget a few years after graduation.
Children should be learning basic life skills and be able to begin taking classes to teach them necessary information for what they want to do with their life or allow them to comfortably explore their options for after their required schooling without putting them in thousands of dollars in debt. We owe it to our children to give them a better environment to grow up in, and I plan to be the start of this change.
