Starting University
So, you're starting university, or you know someone who is. As a first year law student, let me impart some of my wisdom. If you're living away from home, particularly for the first time, you're going to want to personalise your accommodation. Whether you're living in halls or any other type of shared residence, personal touches will help you settle in quickly and make you feel a little less homesick. Bring photos of loved ones, pets, your favourite celebs. Whatever floats your boat. Bring your own bed sheets, your favourite pillow, a soft toy. The sooner you start to make your room yours, the sooner it becomes your home. At first your room will seem cold and bare, but once you've unpacked it'll seem much more inviting.

University Myths Debunked!
I have been at university for just over a month, and already I've realised that a lot of the stories that people tell you aren't always true. Since I had a year off, I had a whole 12 months extra to look at student sites and read articles about what student life is like, so I gathered quite a lot of information. Here are some of the things I heard that you shouldn't be disappointed about if they don't happen to you, because it really doesn't matter!

Discovery Before Degree
The dreaded question of a high school graduating student is the one they get asked most often. What do you want to do with your life? Surprisingly, most people can answer this question. The answers all sound quite similar: I am getting a diploma in early childhood education, I am going to law school, I am going to study biology, I have a full-ride to play soccer. When I was asked this question in high school, I was able to answer it myself. I was going to study honours kinesiology at the University of Waterloo. Impressive, I know. This answer always got a series of wows and amazing and congratulations. Little did they know, or I know, that I didn’t really answer the question. Sure, I was going to get a degree in kinesiology, but where did that leave me after my five years of no sleep, gaining debt, and of course, the unavoidable freshman 15?

2017 OSEU Strike: Refund
If you read my previous article, you will know that I'm a student in Ontario who is unable to attend class because the profs are on strike. I briefly mentioned in the article that there is a petition for students to get a tuition refund making the rounds on the internet, and I have seen many people confused as to what the petition is all about and why students are signing it, so I decided to write out a little explanation.

Higher Education and the Existential Crisis
It's 10:08 AM on a Tuesday morning. I don't yet know if not bringing a jacket was a mistake or not because they're aren't windows in the lecture theatre. 2017 OPSEU Strike
I'm a student at Algonquin College's Woodroffe campus in Ottawa, Ontario, and I, along with 200,000 other full-time students, have been unable to attend class for a week. Starting at 12:01 AM on Monday, October 16, 2017, 12,000 college professors walked away from their jobs and went on strike.

Understanding Students
In today's society, a student is considered, by some, nothing more than a young adult trying to elongate the idea of childhood by staying in education and avoiding as much responsibility as they can. Wrong! I, myself, am a student, and most of us students are trying harder than most adults have to nowadays. Go to lectures, get a job, look after yourself, eat properly, and my personal favorite, stop going out so much. We've all been told throughout school that going to university will help make us more employable. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure it's true, but I will let you know when I get the job I spent three years and a heck of a lot of money working for. Currently, I don't really have a job, and the opportunities are so bountiful. I mean I get the amazing choice of where I want to do bar work if it ever takes my fancy. Lucky me.
