Low Tuition Is in Very Deep Trouble
Equality of higher education opportunity is in very deep trouble in the United States today. Higher education opportunity is moving backward for those from the bottom quartile of family income, for African Americans, and for most Hispanics. Other groups that are in somewhat less but still serious trouble include the two middle family income quartiles, and males, as well students in many regions of the country affected by high prices but lacking adequate financial aid to finance college.

Sorry Mom
My mother keeps telling me I should go back to college. I went to college directly after I graduated from high school. I loved my college experience. I loved having philosophical conversations in the hallway of my dorm room or deserted Dining facility at 3:00 in the morning. I loved working with my fellow engineering students racking our brains to figure out how we could incorporate the few skills we had as freshmen to impress our professor in a cumulative final project. That one credit class that was five times more work than the four credit classes I took that semester--combined. I learned so many skills and formed so many ideas about the person I was and the person I wanted to be.

Even if you feel neither of these is true about you, you can achieve similar results by working smart — not hard.

Changing your Major in College
If you have ever considered post-secondary education or college education, you'll learn that you don't have to choose your major at that first meeting with your Academic Advisor. I myself went into my college experience with an "undecided" major. I knew that whatever I chose I wanted to teach but picking a subject I felt more drawn to and was actually good at, was difficult. With time and practice you can become good at anything, but for me it was a matter of, how do I choose when there are so many subjects that I am interested in? How do I just pick one? Statistically, "about 1 in 10 students changed majors more than once: 10 percent of associate’s degree students and 9 percent of bachelor’s degree students." It's not uncommon to change your major more than once while other students never change majors. You'll find that while some of your peers drop out to pursue other avenues, others double major or spend more than 4 years getting their degree. College is a good place for you to explore avenues of education and recreation that you may not have otherwise been interested in or known about.
